Insurance companies will be flooding the airwaves. States will start making insurance-friendly rules of how to pick a co.

Insurance will increase in price because of the mandated expenses. This will drive people to the government options that will follow because people are being priced out of insurance.

They have to have the votes or they would not do the vote but repugs will stall this thing into the ground and will reverse it later. If they don't have votes, I will laugh my ass off.

I think it will pass. I don't think it will address the overall costs problem at all. Premiums might actually come down a bit for the first 4 years, since now people are obligated to pay for insurance, and the pre-exisiting clause doesn't kick in until 2014 for adults.

The quality of care will be worse. Doctors’ reimbursements for providing care will be squeezed, making it harder to find a doctor. A new survey in the New England Journal of Medicine reports that 46 percent of doctors may give up their practice in the wake of this bill. While that is probably exaggerated, many doctors will likely decide to reduce their patient loads or retire. At the same time, increased demand will create additional problems.

In Massachusetts, after the passage of Romneycare, the wait to see a primary-care physician increased from 33 to 52 days. Research and development will also be cut back, meaning there will be fewer new drugs and other medical breakthroughs. And the government will increasingly intervene in medical decision making, micromanaging medical decisions and deciding what treatments are most effective or, frighteningly, most cost-effective.
The Left will keep pushing for more. Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s inner censor was clearly on the fritz this week when she said, “Once we kick through this door, there’ll be more legislation to follow.” Faced with rising costs and higher premiums, not to mention millions still uninsured, Democrats will blame the “evil” insurance companies and demand further reform. They will argue that we tried “moderate” reform and failed. Pelosi could no longer keep a lid on what the hard Left has been restraining itself from saying all along: It sees this legislation as the perfect first step in the long march to universal single-payer health care.

The insurance companies makes nearly all the revenues from group plans where companies are captive to the couple of insurers in their state. No change here.

The exchanges will also be per state, so the established, incompe ive cartel of insurers will dominate the exchanges also.

I suppose there will be some marketing by insurers to pick up the 30M+ new patients mandated to have insurance.

One thing is sure, for-profit insurers will continue jack their rates way up by 5% - 10%+ per year, while increasing co-pays and deductibles, to pay for the sickos they wil no longer be able to drop. At same time, employers are already giving less favorable coverage to their group plans.

Although the unjustified hubris of The Greatest Country In The World will prevent the USA from learning how other advanced countries cover the populace at 50% of US's per capita cost, other contries have wide variety working solutions that the USA could emulate, but it won't.

One thing is clear, none of these other countries will ever emulate the "free market" ed up mess in the USA.

If health care is passed, expect to see a news story about every single incident where a person receives subpar care or where the transition is not 100% smooth and flawless. Expect people to rush to judgment in the first month about whether this thing was a total disaster. Expect me to watch from the sidelines and mock all of you.
