Consistency is key to Spurs' success
By Shawn Clarke, Contributing NBA Editor

Hot weather, vacations, baseball season and the San Antonio Spurs in the playoffs have been the norm of past summers.
The NBA regular season is winding down for most of the clubs, but for the Spurs the 'real' season will commence in late April. That's when they'll make their 13th straight appearance in the postseason. San Antonio missing out on the postseason is as uncommon as celebrities staying faithful to their significant other, or others if you're Tiger Woods.
But the Spurs (44-29) don't have to cheat to get their fix because, like a spoiled, desperate housewife, they have all the accessories that go with an NBA le. Winners of four championships since the 1998-99 campaign, San Antonio has a roster tailored for winning with a flourishing mix of age, talent and experience. If someone is asked to spit off a few of Gregg Popovich's faithful servants, the obvious come to mind in Tim Duncan, Manu Ginobili and Tony Parker. With Parker currently sidelined with a broken hand, the Spurs have been tapping other wells for production. Richard Jefferson, George Hill and Roger Mason Jr. have done their part to carry the load.
Never mind Monday's loss to the lowly New Jersey Nets, the Spurs will be a favorite to make a deep run in the Western playoffs. Despite sitting in the eighth and final postseason spot, San Antonio is just a half-game behind Oklahoma City and Portland for the No. 6 spot in the conference.
With nine games remaining in the regular season, the Spurs are four games behind Utah for the third seed. They will play four more games in the Alamo City starting with a two-game residency versus Houston and Orlando this week.
