An upcoming Fox News Channel special hosted by Sarah Palin is led "Real American Stories."
But rapper-actor LL Cool J says his participation in the show was bogus.
In response, the network has snipped him from the program.
In a Twitter posting late Tuesday, the entertainer wrote that Fox "lifted an old interview I gave in 2008 to someone else & are misrepresenting to the public in order to promote Sarah Palins Show. WOW."
Country singer Toby Keith was similarly caught by surprise, his publicist said Wednesday.
Elaine Schock said a radio reporter contacted her Tuesday seeking details about Keith's announced appearance on Palin's Fox News program.
"I said, 'You're wrong. There is no Sarah Palin special with Toby Keith on it on Fox,'" Schock said.
She said the reporter then e-mailed her the press release issued by Fox News, which said Keith would "explain the inspiration behind his song 'Courtesy of the Red, White and Blue.'"
Schock said she believed the interview was conducted in January 2009
"Contrary to what was reported, LL Cool J was never scheduled to be a guest on 'Real American Stories' with Sarah Palin this week," spokesman Rhett Usry said in a statement Wednesday. "The show had planned to use an interview from 2008 that was being repurposed without LL's permission.
"This statement is not a reflection of any feelings LL has toward Fox News or Ms. Palin, whom he has never met, rather a clarification of what we have seen published in the media."
Fox News Channel did not respond to numerous calls and e-mails from The Associated Press inquiring about the status of the segment with LL Cool J, who was born James Todd Smith.
But in a statement released to other media outlets, the network said: "'Real American Stories' features uplifting tales about overcoming adversity and we believe Mr. Smith's interview fits that criteria. However, as it appears that Mr. Smith does not want to be associated with a program that could serve as an inspiration to others, we are cutting his interview from the special and wish him the best with his fledgling acting career."
Credits for the 42-year-old actor include a starring role in the hit CBS freshman series "NCIS: Los Angeles" and several films such as "Last Holiday" and "S.W.A.T."
It was unclear when or if future editions of "Real American Stories" will appear on Fox News. Thursday's airing pre-empts "On the Record With Greta Van Susteren."
Palin's ongoing relationship with Fox News Channel as a host and news analyst accounts for only part of her television activities. Last week, the TLC cable network announced "Sarah Palin's Alaska," an eight-part series about Palin's home state that is set to start production this summer.

LL Cool J is a surprisingly good actor, and his career can't be described as fledgling. The producers for this show are ridiculous to repurpose interviews in this way. Ugh, ugh, ugh.

LOL its not like it was peter guns or even flava-flav. he's LL mutha in' cool J, james smith could buy himself like 50 palin's and still have enough change to get a pregnant bristol and that's without touching his new paycheck being on the show on the network watched by the most old people who still actually watch network tv. i mean who the is sarah palin compared to him? a failed politician turned reality tv star? i'd rather watch and vote for that montag chick.

That's a weird le, huh? At least I think it sends a weird message, these writers could have called the report "Palin's TV special under fire for bogus celebrity participation" or something like that...otherwise they make it look like Fox let LL go cuz he ed, which isn't the case according to the article. There's a legal term for using an artist's representation without his/her permission, forgot what it's called.

I'm not nominating him for awards anytime soon, but I think he's doing a terrific job on NCIS and I don't think he sucked in previous roles.
yeah, I guess we'll have to. I don't particularly like his acting on NCIS either.
I have trouble believing there are that many murder cases in the Navy and Marines.
I do not disagree with this assessment at all. I also don't think the equipment would work that way or there is such a need to go undercover in LA, but not in DC.
However, as a character driven show, and something sort of fun, I enjoy it a lot.
I don't watch either. I only see the beginning of NCIS reruns on USA before I switch.

I loved his sitcom in the 90's as a kid.
The media is dirty, and soundbites are misused with intent to decieve the public all the time. That is a classic Foxtainment tactic - although it is used widely, none use it better.
Kind of funny to call his acting career fledgling when he stars in the highest rated new show of the TV season- one that is often in the top 10 ratings-wise overall.
That and the fact he has been acting regularly on TV and in movies for twelve years.
he has to be pushing closer to 20 than 12...........
I checked IDMB. That's why I said "regularly." Twenty or fifteen years ago it could have been call "fledgling."

Of course the Faux Newstainment cameras just pick out an angle that makes it look like he is grabbing her ass and then the voicebites only have him slobbering. She files a sexual harrasment case.
