(1)Second hand smoke in confined spaces kills people. This has been proven by numerous studies and is now recognised in law. Given that, can you understand why people would object to it?
(2)Actually, in 2000 (can't be bothered to go and dig up more recent stats), smoking killed over 5x the people drinking did. And poor diet and inactivity killed over 4x the people alcohol did (and that includes deaths due to drinking and driving). But don't let the facts get in the way:
