Oh come on now. You can't judge a player by his numbers. Irrational blind ignorance works much better.
Mahinmi will have a contract next year that's for sure.
Also leads the team in turnovers and personal fouls according to those stats: 5.0 turnovers, 9.6 fouls, and his A/TO is basically last on the team at .17
Physically he's got the hops and length but he doesn't look strong enough to handle traditional bigs and mentally he's still making the same mistakes that old draft reports criticized him on like his tendency for turnovers and fouls.
He seems as good as gone but who knows what will happen with Tiago and how that affects the near future.
Well said. The voice of reason on here.![]()
Tony Parker is right behind him at 4.0 turnovers, I guess he must suck too. We better not play him anymore. And Blair averages 7.2 fouls, guess we need to bench him too.
Yep, voice of reason here.
Yanny should definitely be the priority this offseason.
Blairs fouls are a problem. And I'm betting Tony handles the rock a little more than Ian to get those turnovers.
Blair's on the bench but yea his fouls are a problem but he is a rookie. Parker was having a bad year and he's the primary ball handler when he was on the court.
Ian gets those stats in garbage time to boot.
You can't forget about that guy Manu, either.
The guy is so great even Mike Bud didn't play him.![]()
Bud probably didn't want to piss off Pop by playing him.
Ian's turnovers are mostly due to inexperience and the fact that he's treated as the clear #1 option when he's on the floor, a role he obviously isn't suited for..
Who cares about that Genopoly guy?? He's too old.
It's obvious from the OP that the Spurs FO' needs to use every asset this off-season to secure Yanny.
+1
If he just focused on defense and rebounding he'd cut the t/o in half straight away.
His point production would go down, but honestly he gets most of his points off garbage plays and offensive boards anyways.
His post game/footwork is kind of ugly but look at Dwight Howards when he first started. Howard's post game has gotten a lot better since then. He just needs a good mentor/someone to work with him on that part of his game.
You know what, you are completely right. Who gives a about this guy?
We NEED to get Ian a contract in the off-season.
He's still a marginal NBA player. There's nothing wrong with that. It would be nice to have him again next season but the world won't end if he isn't retained.
I agree with this.
If we bring in Splitter, and re-up Bonner (which is their intention from the last I heard). I just don't see Mahimni ever getting a real opportunity to secure a spot in the rotation til the day Tim and McDyess call it quits.
Maybe McDyess can be traded to a team that strikes out on a deal for a big man during free agency to make some room for Mahimni, but even then he would be the 5th big behind Splitter, Bonner, TD, and Blair.
My gut feeling thinks Spurs will still offer him a deal in the range of 800k-1.25 million per year for 2-3 years as our 5th or 6th big on the depth chart.
TBH, I can't imagine the Spurs keeping McDyess if Splitter joins for around the MLE..McDyess is already overpaid, I can't imagine them not shopping him around if Splitter joins the team..it obviously depends on whether another team would take his contract, but I think the Spurs will aggressively pursue it..
I wouldn't mind seeing Bonner back, but I think it'll depend on what he does in the playoffs..if he chokes again, I can see the Spurs parting ways with him, because I believe other teams might be willing to pay a little more for him..
Bonner will choke again, the equation is infallible
Pressure+playoffs+Bonner = Bonner choke
I have this terrible fear I'm going to be watching Bonner in a critical possession in a game 7 with the lakers / playoff opponent doing one of his patented take a few steps to the basket, elevate, realize he doesn't have a shot or anyone to pass the ball to and twists backwards and loft the ball in the air hoping a spurs' guard will track it down and ignite a fast break dunk for the opposing team.
Yes, all our hopes lie on whether Ian takes Bonner's minutes.
If Spurs sign Splitter with a part of the MLE, the main quality required for the player to complement Duncan, McDyess, Blair and Splitter will be to be cheap. With the luxury tax, I would be surprise to see Spurs spending more than $2M for an end of bench player.
Spurs will have a lot of options to fit that role: Spurs 2010 first round draft pick, Bonner, Mahinmi, free agent... I wouldn't ruled out to see Spurs going with Ian because he will be significantly cheaper than Bonner.
Ian should only be resigned if he'll be the 4th big, which would mean Bonner couldn't get resigned, and McDyess would be traded, or switch out Tiago not coming for one of those two staying. I'd love a frontline of Timmy, Blair, Tiago, and Ian, but that's too much newness to put next to Duncan. Sadly, Dyess or Bonner has to stay.
