    Sources: Johnson makes HOF
    ESPNBoston.com

Former Boston Celtics guard Dennis Johnson, who played with the original Big Three and helped Boston win two NBA les (1984 and '86) and Seattle win one (1979), has been elected to the Naismith Hall of Fame, sources told ESPNBoston.com's Peter May.

The official announcement is expected Monday morning.

Johnson, who died of a heart attack in February 2007 at the age of 52, played 14 seasons in the NBA, the final seven with Boston.

He was considered a defensive specialist and one of the top guards of his era. Johnson was one of 19 nominees announced in February and many believed his inclusion in the Hall was long overdue.

Johnson, known as DJ, was a five-time All Star and was named the 1979 NBA Finals MVP.

Johnson, who played four years with Seattle and three with the Phoenix Suns, had his No. 3 retired by the Celtics in 1991.

Goddamn right. DJ was very, very underrated. Yes, he was a defensive specialist, but he developed into a fantastic all-around player, who rebounded, slashed to the basket, created offense for others, while being an elite defender and perennial all-defensive team selection. All of which was evidence as to why he was named the 1979 NBA Finals MVP for the Sonics.

Larry Bird himself called DJ the most important player on that last Celtic championship team.

Congrats to my man, DJ - albeit posthumously.

Just think of him as a Sonic.

Long overdue. DJ might not have had the greatest individual stats but when it came to defense, toughness, smarts and just being a winning basketball player, there aren't too many better than this man.

I'm really surprised to hear DJ made it. Not that I'm not a big fan of his game and all, but the Basketball Hall of Fame usually s on the NBA. Now they gotta get Bernard King in there.

I think some people only remember Dennis Johnson with the Boston Celtics.

Three time champion, Finals MVP, one of the greatest point guard defenders to ever play the game.

    This honor is long overdue.

I doubt Jamaal Wilkes get in the HOF. Just my opinion.
