Why not count as 4 points everything made from behind mid court?
While waiting for the POs to start, too much idle time... draw an arc 30 feet or more from the basket. each made shot counts for 4 points. Would make games more interesting and unpredictable. There would be less players in the area close to the basket, encoutaging more layups. Teams with good Bigs would have an edge, as doubleteams down low may suffer.

"Cause there are no 4-pointers." -Antonie Walker when asked why he always shoots 3s.
50+ yard field goals in the NFL should be worth 4 points.
back in the 70s and 80s yes but today they are made to frequently if anything 39-and bellow should be worth 2 and 40 and up should be worth 3
That would not make games more interesting, what would we do? start watching mavs games? Or would baseball and golf fans start watching the NBA?
And encourage more layups? I'm sure they're very encouraged now and since the peachbasket days
Do yall even think about these ideas?
In football you would have teams kneeling the ball and running backwards to win games
To make the lane wider just use the FIBA trapezoid lane.
I highly doubt you'd see many teams jacking up four-pointers 30+ ft. from the basket unless they were way behind and were in desperation mode. The chances of those baskets going in are very slim.
it's better than the foul for two free throws catch-up strategy. i wish they would tank that and let the fouled team choose the get side-out or free throws (same time on the shot clock).
Dan Majerle, is that you?
I'd make it any shot from inside the opponents 3 point lane=4 points
4-pointer and one?
the % drops drastically as the distance increases. Multiply the % with 4 then you get the expected output from a 4-point shot, IMHO the calculation will be low enough to warn these professional teams off such shots and make this proposal complete crud.
What is the point of a 4 point line anyways. The game is fine the way it is.
I greatly hope the team is not smoking or drinking the same thing as any of you on this thread.
No way, that will make a bunch of games decided purely on luck with 4pt heaves at the end. At least a 3pt shot takes some skill and is guarded well.
a 4 point line, just make 3's worth 4 for white people and mystery solved.
Full of fail.
I think Roger Mason Jr. already thinks there is one. I don't know how many times I've seen him jack up a three from way beyond the arc.
I still like Jeff Van Gundy's suggestion during a telecast that a team should be able to tie a game by making a half-court shot if they are down by more than 25.![]()
It seems that the point of all this is that distance should equal value. The greater the distance the more it should be worth. If so then Red Auerbach touched on this when the ABA and NBA merged. Being a purist he hated the 3 point shot and believed that if you reward more points for distance then you should make the layup worth 1 point.
Makes sense to me since the issue is about the value of distance. And the reason that the ABA had a 3 point shot was to attract fans with more scoring since they believed that meant greater excitement and value to the fan. It had nothing to so with basketball philososphy or tradition and was solely a marketing gimmick in their compe ion for customers with the NBA. IMHO
