What the ? I never signed up for this, and I call that business and she said that I created that account on 2-26-10 @ 3:27 am. I was like WTF? That was a friday morning, I know I didn't at that time I was asslep. She gave me my IP address and I guess I have to confirm with AT and T That was my IP address. But I mean I know I didn't sign up for it what went wrong? I have an wireless router, but its password protected, I don't think anyone could log on and do this??? I think I'll start shutting my router down every night or when I'm not using it...

Tell ATT, they will credit the charge. You can do it online.

Wow! Well I think we got it figured out. I'm not paying that charge, and I should see a credit next month.

    People, check your bills!!!!

Well just by reading through some of those links posted above. It can happen through any phone company. I read alot of Verizon billing issues there. Apparently it's all billed through ild teleservices.

Thanks alot. I read through some of these, and immediatly took care of it. It's called "cramming" and I bet that alot of older people pay thier bills without even noticing these phantom charges.

My husband's work phone # for the past two months has hsf two charges from Precision Communications International, which I guess is a web hosting site. But what they're doing is going through some billing services that allows you to charge it to your phone line instead of a credit card. The first charge was from ILD Teleservices and the second one was through Payment One. I had to call both of these companies to get this Precision Comm site blocked and the charges removed. They will give a confirmation number and the first one did reverse the charges. The other should also, but that will show up on the next bill.

We have no idea who's doing it and think they they switched billing services because it got blocked the first time. The only thing I can think why is this is happening is because around the time of the first charge, someone hacked in to Chase's website and hacked a bunch of credit cards (which they caught right away, so kudos to them), so since this was a business card, it would have had the business phone number.

But it pisses me off that AT&T doesn't monitor this like a CC company does when they notice that something isn't the norm.

You should do that anyway - no point having it on when you are not using it. It is a waste of power, a security risk, and you are using up the components' lifetimes unnecessarily (everything is built to break after a certain number of hours, especially computer equipment).

As part of a $105 million "mobile cramming" settlement with the Federal Trade Commission on Wednesday, AT&T Mobility will pay $80 million in consumer refunds.

The settlement, filed simultaneously with a complaint in Atlanta, Ga., in involves all 50 states and the District of Columbia. In addition to the refunds, AT&T will pay $20 million in penalties to the states and D.C., plus a $5 million for the Federal Communications Commission.

AT&T Mobility's cramming, as alleged in the complaint, involved its practice of charging customers up to an extra $9.99 a month for unauthorized text-message subscription services such as wallpaper, trivia, horoscopes, celebrity gossip and love tips. The settlement is the first on a national scale to address mobile cramming practices.

I had an AT&T account (closed 2 years ago) that has an outstanding balance of $1300. It's on my credit report. I think it was from gross tethering use, but can I somehow parlay this complaint into the bill and get that debt wiped out--or at least pay a substantially less portion? Sketchy I know, but I don't feel like paying for some bull bill

Why did you wait that long to find a resolution? It would of been easier to protest the charges early on. You could try to negotiate the charge. My friend had a $1200 bill for roaming once and he negotiated a $177 payoff to resolve the situation.

I had dodging creditors down to a science. Just trying to pay the rest of the bad on my CR off with as minimal a hit as possible

"AT&T doesn't monitor this like a CC company does when they notice that something isn't the norm."

it's ATT's billing system so they certainly "notice something", ATT gets a cut of the cramming charges, and it's absolutely the "norm".

Just another way BigCorps loot, scam, steal from their customers while delivering the tiest possible product for the highest possible price.

    Why not just pay?

If something bad happened - why not just make arrangements - once your situation cleared up?

"down to a science" sounds ... questionable.

He was a long-time customer, from the Cingular days. Plus, I think it was better to get some funds than nothing. He also told me that his regular bill was about $110 so it was a huge mistake by him and AT&T understood it was not on purpose.
