    San Antonio shocks lethargic champs

LOS ANGELES - Here's something else the Lakers can add to their list of late-season anxieties: the San Antonio Spurs.

It's the franchise that won't go away. The franchise with the vampire genes.

The team that finally seemed too old to compete for a le -- as of late January when they were 25-18 and looking like a playoff no-show -- handled the Lakers convincingly at Staples Center on Sunday.

The Spurs have won five of their past six games, including wins over division leaders Cleveland, Boston, Orlando and now the defending champions.

Said Duncan: "We don't want to see them in the first round. We know how good they are."

I don't see what's so strange about Duncan's comment. The Lakers are the best team in the West. Why would the Spurs want to see the best team in the West in the first round?

Great win for the Spurs. Now they have to get the W in Sactown tonight. Another 2b2 and the Spurs are without Hill. I'm grateful that it's the Kings and not a good team fighting for PO position.

As for the Lakers they do seem to be out of sync lately. Hopefully that will continue into the POs but I'm not counting on it. They will get it together at some point but as I stated in another thread this Laker team hasn't shown me the ability to just flip the switch and be the team they were last year. I maybe wrong on this but as of now I haven't seen it.

And as many of you know playing your best BB going into the POs is critical for success, Just because you have all those wins and a higher seed doesn't mean you are going to get out of the 1st round. Running into a hot team while you're just playing average BB means most likely you can plan for your vacation sooner rather than later.

True, they aren't as good as last year's squad. If they would have kept Ariza instead of Artest they would be however. Ariza really had a knack for "flipping" the switch for them with his hustle plays, athleticism, and clutch shooting.

They still are a dangerous team of course, esp once they get Bynum back.
