We lost this game because of bad coaching by Popovich.

On defense, he put Bonner, Bogans and Jefferson on Nowitzki. o ??? Tim Duncan ??? And the refs are not gonna call pussy fouls on Duncan as they did on Bonner and Bogans.

On offense, he should have used Parker more. The Mavs can't guard Parker. Why didn't he use Blair instead of Bonner ? o ??? Put Duncan on Dirk and Blair on the offensively incapable centers (Dampier, Haywood) and you got yourself a ''W''. No way that Dampier and Haywood are taking rebounds over Blair, the guy is a beast on the boards.

Refs + bad coaching caused this loss in addition to a couple of scrubs who are completely ineffective when playing basketball: Mason and Bogans.

How's Pop going to keep the FT deficit under 20? Because we outshot their asses from the field, meaning we won the offense/defense battle. We just couldn't overcome Stern's bag man Salvatore.

I can't stand that he doesn't have a consistent game plan. He tries 15 different things on Dirk...why not work something consistent? Either let Dirk get his and contain the rest... or swarm Dirk.

How can you expect the defense to develop a rhythm if it's so dynamic?

btw, Parker got bottled up a lot whenever he went inside. Mavs are big, in case you haven't noticed.

25 minutes from Mason and Bogans...0 points 0 rebounds 1 assist 0 steals 0-3 from the field.

Not to mention Pop's lineup consisting of Mason/Bogans/Bonner AT THE SAME TIME to start the 4th...

Digging us a 12 point hole...

Because NBA refs tend to let all-stars (especially future HOF like Duncan) get away with more stuff on defense because they (Stern + NBA) want to keep them on the floor

btw, Parker got bottled up a lot whenever he went inside. Mavs are big, in case you haven't noticed.
lol that's EXACTLY what we want ! let them crowd Parker so he can pass the ball to the open man, we need to force the mavs to make a choice ... either crowd the paint and get killed from the outside or let ginobili and parker get lay-ups all day long... the mavs need to pick their poison ... either way, we are the agressors in this match-up, pop has to realize that cuz he's playing scared on offense right now, that's why we keep making pussy turnovers by the way

This was soooo ing hard to watch.

The Spurs had one recorded block in the game, and it came from DeJuan Blair in his 8 minutes!... we have George Hill and McDyess but they're nowhere to be found... we have Malik Hairston, somebody who could probably keep up with Caron Bulter and Jason Terry, yet he's not even suited up... Very frustrating.

so you want to put timmy out in the perimeter and cover #41...they would not be punk fouls they'd probably be more legit, timmy in foul trouble and mavs fans yelling next...this team lost with turnovers and discrepancy at the line...that bad coaching you speak about is great at making adjustments and getting his team ready to play...timmy had a great game and the bench did not show up tonite...I expect a different game in game two, still looking to get one on the road, mission accomplished if no when we win game two

Roger Mason Jr. still playing and lack of Hill created bad place to play out of, next game will be better WITHOUT the cute passes that created turnovers and lack of defensive rebounds.

    don't count on that.

this would have been true if the dynamic duo of mason and bonner hit half of their three's or if barry was still playing with the spurs.

Blair had 26/20 the other night against dallas, and pop played him all of 8 minutes. This wad never learns. He continues to play small, he'll continue playing lineups of mase/bonner/bogans, and he will sit his rookie.

That was a preseason game or u think Damp/Haywood tried REALLY hard to stop Blair and getting the rebounds?

Seriously Pop should let Duncan attack Dirk. Get him into foul trouble. Get Manu to drive on Dirk on pick and rolls. Whatever.

And agreed with the rest. Where the is DeJuan Blair after his 27/23 performance? WTH.

I have been standing up for Pop a lot of times but this time it really pisses me off. Bonner and Bogans were doing .

Duncan can't guard Dirk. He'd end up with 3 fouls in the first quarter. It's too bad Mahinmi didn't develop as the Spurs hoped. His athleticism would have been huge in a series like this.

ALL of Mason's minutes should go to Hill, and if not , give em to Temple.

Mason should be stapled to the bench. This coach just doesn't get it. The guy is a one dimensional player who, due to his torn ligament in his pinky finger and his lack of confidence, is not and will not be able to excel at that one dimension well enough to justify playing time for the remainder of the season.

Bonner, how many more times does this guy have to prove that he can't get it done in big games and against good teams for this coach to get it? I don't give a if McDyess is in foul trouble, he's the Spurs best bet at guarding Nowitzki and gives them another solid rebounder and someone who's not afraid of the stage. He needs to be playing upwards of 30 minutes. What's he being saved for?

Jefferson, bad as he was, he get's two quick fouls and Pop sits him well into the 2nd quarter, as if this undersized team has a plethora of options at SF.

Duncan on Nowitzki is a terrible idea. He's the Spurs only semblance of rim protection (guarding Nowitzki would mean he'd be pulled out of the paint) and has to carry too heavy a load overall to be asked to guard Nowitzki. Besides, he'd live in foul trouble guarding a player who inexplicably get's more calls than him.

Just brutal rotation decisions, as always. That along with an over reliance on the pick-and-roll and horrific officiating (mainly with the calls Nowitzki was getting) did the Spurs in. You'd think these are all correctable and in theory, you'd be right. In reality, what we see is what we're going to get.
