Agreed, but I just don't understand how Dirk can get just as much free throws as the entire Spurs team.
But I don't believe that completely decided the game as we still had our chances, and we shot ourselves in the foot.
Bring on game 2.

Just one game. Expect the series to be compe ive.
Don't whine about calls. That's what you always give us a hard time about.
When Dirk plays that much better than anyone else, Dallas is going to win. But that doesn't mean that there won't be games where Manu or Duncan won't be the best player on the court.
The best team won tonight. That is all. See you in Game 2.

You won't get an argument from me that Bennett Salvatore is the worst official in the NBA.
His rep is that he gives way too many foul calls for the home team. I think he reinforced that tonight.
I don't think that was the difference in the game though.
You wouldn't have much of an argument if you didn't put the "Don't whine about calls" in there as if it isn't a valid gripe. Dallas is a good team, but that was a very poorly officiated game. Hopefully things are better overall come Wednesday (i.e. either let guys play or give each "star" the benefit of the doubt).
i miss the days when FTs were earned not given out like welfare. i miss the days when you got to the FT line cause you were fouled playground style....well unless you were Karl Malone or Reggie Miller. Those two would kick the defender on their jumpers and draw fouls. But other than them, you had to get the snot beat out of you to earn a trip to the FT line.
The NBA needs to get rid of that stupid hand check rule it is slowing down the game and causing too many fouls to be called.
"Dont whine about calls," coming from the fan base in denial about the 06 finals.
I think I might have to agree on the handchecking. Unless you're pulling at a guy's jersey or REALLY impeding his progress it's pretty ticky-tack.
hard to win when it is 5 on 8.....but keep telling yourself the best team won. you had the game giftwrapped by the officials and you only won by 6. if the officiating is anywhere near even, the Spurs win.
but we all know that it will never be even, cause the refs bend over backwards to accomodate the Nazi. It is amazing how a guy who shoots nothing but 3s and fade away jumpers can shoot so many FTs....but that is the reality of today's NBA.
nevermind the Spurs scored more points in the point and attacked the paint more (missed lots of layups)......but still only ac ulated 14 FTs.
the officiating is horrible, we know it, and you know it. dont act so condescending.
still, even with such lopsided officiating, the Spurs only lost by 6. so maybe in game 2, some of the Spurs role players will actually show up. maybe the Spurs will limit their turnovers to 10 or less. maybe they will make their layups with more efficiency. this way, when the Mavs get another huge FT margin, it wont matter.
didnt stop jordan, wilkins, bird, pippen, worthy, king, english, gervin, etc. from going off.
Who's a Nazi?
You ing got. Cry some more.
The Nazi? What a prick. Totally uncalled for, man.
Still disappointed in all the ref-whining that's going on here.
Again ... take away the fouls that the Spurs were giving on Dampier (and yes I count all 12, not just the six that happened during hack-a-Damp) and the FTA disparity was only 8.
An 8 FTA disparity could be attributable to the way the game was being called, or the aggressiveness with which the Mavs were taking the ball to the hole in the 1st quarter (which is where most of the disparity came from).
I acknowledge that Duncan wasn't getting some of the calls he usually gets to start the game. But I thought the officiating wasn't a factor for the last three quarters.
Dirk is going to get foul calls. Especially when he's being played by someone with no defensive rep.
All due respect to the Spurs, they were not the best team in that game. That's why they lost. The Mavs also got favorable officiating. But so what?

thanks for this thread..
i honestly got embarassed by some of the fellow fans that started whining up the whazoo..
yea the game was unfair but it wasn't like freakin' lakers vs kings 2002.. we'll get some calls.. they'll get some calls.. we get frustrated but srsly.. dont' make a in' ass outta yourself..
Mavsfans crying about Spursfans calling other people nazis.
Yet the word is farted out of their mouths more often than not... Karma is a .
Just to clarify so I don't look like an ass, the most noticeable Mavsfans of this board are the kings of calling other people Nazis.
That also.
Okay Mark "You're betta than that!" Jackson...thanks for the worthless input.
i hate the mavs and their fans but I agree with this dude....the nba playoffs - where one teams wins the game and the other team cries about the refs...
28 non-Hack-a-Damp free throws is pretty average.
14 free throws is low, though I'm not exactly sure what the Spurs fans think should have been called more on their end. Heck, when Ginobili drove the lane, the Mavs just let him go by.
Comment from a local sports commentator here that I completely agree with:
The best thing Avery Johnson did for the Mavericks was to get them to stop using officiating as an excuse.
That doesn't mean it isn't still bad sometimes. That doesn't mean it never decides an outcome. But bottom line is that blaming officiating is for losers.
