They had to call the T on Hill. It was definitely a foul. Tim had just made a FT, and the Mavs hadn't made the inbound yet. A foul committed before the ball gets thrown in is a technical. The Mavs got one shot plus possession. It wasn't the amount of contact, it was when it happened.
Hill needs to take a page from Parker and attack the rim...he's been taking some bad shots and picking up his dribble the minute someone cuts off his drive. Could use his aggressive attack of the rim to take pressure off of the Big 3.

I think a foul committed before an inbounds is an automatic set of FT's.....the ball was in the air when Hill extended his arms and got called for the push on Barea. I think it was a foul, as you stated, just not a tech.
I sure hope Manu shook the cobwebs out of Hill's brain while ing him out after that stupid technical. We don't have much wiggle room for error, that was a needless free point for the mavs.

Hill's out of sync and out of rhythm; he looks like he's trying to catch up to his teammates on a dead-run.
He needs to have a decent spurt or stretch to get him feeling good about his game offensively and hopefully things will start to click. It's a of a task for the guy to get back where he was under the cir stance, against this team, and with the way they're crowding the paint

Nope. Think about what would happen at the end of games if you could foul before the throw-in. If you were behind and had to foul, you could hammer somebody, let them shoot their free throws, and NO time would run off the clock. So the rule gives 1 shot, plus possession.
