Mavs aren't losing the series because JJB is over dribbling. They simply can't stop the Spurs. SA has out shot them in every game.
Dirk has been the best player in this series. The problem for Dallas is that the second, third and fourth-best players in this series all wear silver and black on their jerseys.

And we are now 1-17 with Dan Crawford reffing.
Just saying.
Mavs are still +7 on FTAs for the series. Just saying.
Our role players are outplaying yours, too. Neither McDyess or RJeff are tearing it up, but they are eating minutes (28/34.7) and both shooting 52.6% from the field, and combining for 16.4 points and 13.4 rebounds. That rebounding figure is almost what you're getting from your center combo. Dallas has only 2 players shooting over 50%, Dirk and Haywood. SA has 5, the big three and the combo I mentioned above.
This game was on the Mavs, not Crawford.
This series is all about which team makes the most tough shots, like Sir Charles said. In game 1, the edge was given to Dirk with his impressive performance. During game 2, RJ and Duncan were great and hit tough shots (or made really good drives as RJ did). In game 3, TP and Hill made some tough shots, while Dirk continued to kind of struggle (percentage-wise and getting to the line).
I think that will sway back in the Mavs direction game 4, and it will be either be the hardest win for the Spurs to get this year or a Mavs win blowout.
don't get me wrong....
i'm a firm believer. i think the guys are doing great considering ghill and parker are still walking off injuries...but lets not break out the confetti just yet.
see how it plays out tomorrow, if they can keep this momentum going then great, if it gets tied up again and goes back to dallas this could be bad, because then we only get one more home shot against the team with the best road record which is not a good corner to be in.
Game 4 is gonna be tough...feel pretty good about the win despite our 0 for 7 3pt lapse....won't happen again I bet.
Didn't the MAVS have one of the lowest margins of victory in the NBA going into the playoffs ?
I think pop looked at that and went, 'I can out coach this dude and get those 5 points.'
the 0-7 on three pointers AND the win, actually is something to give us confidence. Spurs get the zone defense down and how to deal with that and start making three's, it's over.
I've been mad at pop a bit, I admit, but you gotta admit..and it's not hard to do...the man is a basketball genius.
Spurs still took care of business, no matter how the game went for both teams. Mavs getting a 17-0 run in 3rd quarter to take a 8 point lead and losing the game is amazing.
Exactly. I view these things as a plus, as I didn't view game one as disaster. Considering the Mavs at home in game one, the Spurs playing horrible..barring TD of course...and it was close.
Mavs are done. I picked them in 7 but hadn't paid enough attention to them during the season. They won what, 5 more games than us ?
Everyone is going off of LAST year, when we had no Manu.....Hill was a rookie.
We got this.
Dallas was the best road team in the NBA this year, had the best road point differential against other winning teams in the regular season. They simply haven't been dominant at home. I'd be surprised if the Mavs failed to win a game in San Antonio during this series.
Mono says the Mavs were "front-running jump-shooting pussies" during the regular season. If he puts so much stock in the regular season, then the Mavs are going to get G4 or G6.
I just don't think we can come back from 3-1, it's hard to beat a team like the Spurs three straight times. Didn't get to see the game, but it sounds like Carlisle found a lineup that worked and then ran it into the ground and didn't give those guys a breather at any point. They were too tired in the fourth quarter apparently.
But I agree with excstatic when he points out that the Spurs are shooting 49% for the series. That number has to come down for Dallas to win.
You must be missing Harris and Diop now. Last season in playoffs, Duncan played the games with pains in his ankle so Dampier was quite enough to tamper with him, but a healthy Duncan is apparently too much of a beast to handle, even with Haywood added. While those white/black s were relentlessly double teaming Dirk, Carlisle still decide to stick to his old method that Duncan could be neutered by one man and enough.
if Carlisle has a brain, he would have learned something from Pop's defensive strategies and realized Duncan is the hub of their offense (like Dirk in Mavs offense) and needs to be sapped down by DOUBLE TEAM.
