    Yesterdays games were officiated by

    Salvatore
    Mauer
    Foster
    D. Crawford

All of them were refs in spurs series

    Today we have 3 guys

    J.Crawford
    J.DeRosa
    E.Rush

That is leaving McCutchen alone heading to Texas

Mccutchen is hit or miss. Screw it. Play well enough that they don't matter...

Nice info poland. For backup, I would like to see what FWD has to say and who he has pegged to be crew chief.

Either way, it's nice to avoid Joey Crawford. Typically, he is a good referee to have if you are on the road, but with his feelings towards The Big Warranty, I much prefer to avoid him.

Yeah, I am glad because I don't want to worry about Joey yet. Although, I'd prefer to have him on the road in game 5 rather than at home in Game 6.

I'm more confident that the supporting cast can show up and the guys can close it out at home with Timmy getting a bad rap from Joey than I am of them doing the same in Game 5 at Dallas. I really think it is important to close Dallas out ASAP.

(Also, I don't normally get into such discussions about referees affecting games and such, but with Joey, there is clearly an agenda and it is ridiculous.)

Doesn't Javie usually favor the road team?

I would love to have Javie officiating on the road in Dallas.

I think Poland is right. As I said yesterday, I thought Joey would almost necessarily have to have Game 5 of Phoenix/Portland, so that left the odd man out among Rush, Derosa, and McCutchen as the likely chief of Game 5 of DAL/SA. That appears to be true with respect to McCutchen.

(For whatever it's worth, I think Salvatore very likely has Game 5 of LAL/OKC.)

As for officials 2 and 3 for Game 5, I think they likely come from a pool consisting of:

    Tony Brothers
    Derrick Collins
    Ron Garretson
    Ed Malloy
    Derrick Stafford
    Greg Willard
    Leon Wood

Nobody has Javie to worry about in the 2010 playoffs -- he's out with an injury.

    So is Mark Wunderlich.

I've read a stat where the Spurs have a losing record in games officiated by Javie. I'm looking for a link but I can't seem to find it at the moment.

Since 2000, the Spurs are 13-7 in playoff games that Javie has officiated.

But, again, nobody has to worry about it this year, since Javie isn't working in these playoffs.

I actually think Javie is the best official in basketball. Few seem to agree with me, but I think he's the best play-caller in the game and the one official who is least likely to be swayed by coaches, players, or crowds -- particularly in big games.

refs who are generally not known by name by most usually are the most bearable

Yeah, spot on. He is definitely the guy I want to see when the Spurs play on the road in the playoffs. At home you don't want to see him because you want as much home cooking as you can get

He calls it how he sees it and he is one of few referees that looks as if he is 100% confident on all the calls he makes. He is usually very consistent on both ends, too.

I like Javie when the Spurs are on the road. He's not afraid to make the right call in front of a hostile crowd. Joey Crawford is the only other official who is close to Javie in that regard.

The worst to have on the road are Bavetta, Salvatore, Rush and Garretson.

The Spurs have to win sixteen games, which means they're likely to see Joey Crawford at least once.

Absolutely. The further you go, the more certain that becomes.

There's no doubt that Joey is going to be a Finals official. That means he's going to likely do a game in each of the conference finals. And it's quite likely that unless the conference semifinals are decided unusually quickly, Joey is going to work at least one game in each of those series as well.

The same is true of Ed Rush, Bennett Salvatore, Dan Crawford, Scott Foster, Monty McCutchen, Ken Mauer, and Joe Derosa.
