I actually think Javie is the best official in basketball. Few seem to agree with me, but I think he's the best play-caller in the game and the one official who is least likely to be swayed by coaches, players, or crowds -- particularly in big games.
Same here...Javie is not afraid of the crowd, and he is a real "law and order" ref...he is firm, but fair. I always feel good about our chances with Javie reffing...he calls 'em as he sees 'em, and he doesn't try to "control" the flow of the game...he lets the players play.

It's almost a lock we're gonna have Joey C. for Game 6 if it gets that far.

The ironic thing is that many Spurs fans were initially introduced to Steve Javie as a character during the 1996 Playoffs when a rash of quick calls on David Robinson during a game in Salt Lake City led to David's pronouncement that Javie's calls were "garbage" and that he was calling games personally.

    http://articles.latimes.com/1996-05-...85_1_utah-jazz

Game 6, just like Games 3 and 4 at the Delta Center, was marked by another struggle by Robinson, who was scoreless in the first half. He picked up his third foul only 14 seconds into the second quarter, and Utah was ahead by 13 when he returned in the second half.

Robinson, ordinarily the league's poster boy for sportsmanship, could not hide his disdain for the officiating.

"That third foul was garbage, and I think it was personal," Robinson said of a questionable charging call by referee Steve Javie. "Every time I've seen him, things have been the same--not good. I don't appreciate him bringing that onto the floor."
Things have changed quite a bit since then.

I would prefer Joey rather then Rush, but hopefully we will win in 5.

yup I do also agree with you all about Javie. I think he is th best in the bussiness. I also do like Danny Crawford cause he let's players play and he does not like bull .

I like Javie when the Spurs are on the road. He's not afraid to make the right call in front of a hostile crowd. Joey Crawford is the only other official who is close to Javie in that regard.

The worst to have on the road are Bavetta, Salvatore, Rush and Garretson.
Wow, you guys must have some awesome memories to have ranked all of the refs like this. I've been watching ball since I grew up, and though I remember who the refs are, I hardly ever remember who called what game or made what controversial call, and even more whether the team I was rooting for was at home or on the road with a hostile or benign crowd into it.

Hadn't figured Fraher would work a Game 5. Same with Zarba, who has one of the other games tonight. A slight change in the system, I think.

By the way, with the way the schedule breaks out across the league, I think this essentially ensures that Ed Rush was scheduled to be the lead official for Game 5 of CHA/ORL, which obviously won't happen; given today's assignments, Rush was the only chief who hadn't worked in that series and wasn't working tonight. We'll see if that changes where, if anywhere, Rush will go on Thursday.

For those on Joey Watch 2010, if he's not doing Milwaukee/Atlanta Game 5 on Wednesday night, there's an excellent chance that he's got SA/DAL Game 6.

    Yesterdays games were officiated by

    Salvatore
    Mauer
    Foster
    D. Crawford

All of them were refs in spurs series

    Today we have 3 guys

    J.Crawford
    J.DeRosa
    E.Rush

That is leaving McCutchen alone heading to Texas
San Antonio @ Dallas: Monty McCutchen, Pat Fraher, Greg Willard

    Spot on, mate!

At least the Spurs don't have Javie to worry about.
I would give anything to have Javie officiate gave 5 in Dallas.

I like Javie as long as we don't have Nick Van Exel on our team.
That experiment was a year too long.

His floaters from 10-13 feet in transition would enrage the out of me.

Steve Javie is a good ref - but he doesn't take any backtalk - he'll T a player up faster than just about anyone. Of course, if you've been in the league for any period of time, you know that, and you just keep your mouth shut and play.

This makes up for Little DAnny Crawfored then!

Mavs win game 5 and we see Joey C in game 6. How fitting.

    Joey C cannot doom us
he's been a good ref. If spurs players stays cool as they were I'm not worried about Joeys ego coming up.

You're still convinced that officiating has played some role in this series?

The officating has been good throughout the series. I think game 3 had some slight leverage towards the Spurs, but not enough to shift a game. And in game 4 the officiating was in favor of the Mavs (two flagrant fouls that were not really flagrant) and they lost that one too.

    This times a million.
