Of course there was something strange about Brandon Knight, the top point guard in the high school basketball Class of 2010, signing an "aid agreement" with Kentucky instead of a Letter of Intent.

Not signing a Letter of Intent may have something to do with LeBron James, writes SI.com's Michael Rosenberg.

In a nuts , a Letter of Intent means the deal is a two-way committment between the school and the athlete. By signing an aid agreement, the Wildcats are committed to Knight, but he is not committed to them.

In the article, Knight is not exactly clear why he signed an aid agreement instead of a Letter of Intent ....

But one prominent rumor is that [UK coach John] Calipari will leave Kentucky for the NBA, possibly to coach LeBron James wherever LeBron ends up this summer. James, as you probably know, is buddies with William "Worldwide Wes" Wesley, who is Calipari's ... uh, friend. LeBron showed up at Rupp Arena this year, even wore Kentucky colors. He and Cal are buds.

And if something like that happens, Knight will be able to transfer without sitting out.

College coaches in both hoops and football often fall flat on their faces in pro sports. They don't realize that the talent gap between the "haves" and the "have nots" in college covers a LOT of their mistakes. If the pro sports talent gap is a pot hole, the college sports talent gap is the Grand Canyon.
