Especially since it's not like everyone can "get in line". If you're not married to a citizen, or a skilled worker, you just have to hope each yearthat your name gets called.

I definitely understand the moral hazard of amnesty for illegal immigrants. However, I would rather provide a path to citizenship than not, because we can collect money from them and then get them paying taxes.

With no path to citizenship, then illegal immigrants will try staying hidden, forcig state departments to spend money on police, courts etc etc.

Figured I'd share a somewhat personal take while we are on the subject...

My wife had a VISA when I met her, so she was legal, and we ended up getting her green card. Soon she will be eilgible for citizenship. While she is looking forward to being an American and all the privileges that entails, she still thinks she will has
pride in her former country, EVEN THOUGH she knows how bad it sucks.

She is proud of the culture of her people, just not the country as it is now, especially the government. I'm sure she will tear up during the Oath, both in joy and sadness.
