    i hate halo

and all these halo games are all the same!

at least CoD goes from WW2 to modern times

but Halo is always the same setting with pretty much the same weapons.

    dunno.

and ODST was a massive failure. horde mode with no matchmaking. barf
I just bought ODST to get this beta and yeah, it sucks ass. But who cares, it never promised much more than it delivered. ODST was a sidenote, Reach is Halo 4.

But, even though I haven't been an elite player since Halo CE, I like Halo in general. The graphics (until Reach) have been dated, but I have no problem with the gameplay. I have no problem with the gameplay staying the same from iteration to iteration. It's a more casual experience than CoD... and that's okay. I can't always be sound whoring and quick scoping like my life depends on it. Sometimes, as sobriety (or lack thereof) dictates, I just wanna throw in a game, run around and shoot what's in front of me: Halo is excellent for that.

And I really like the reach beta. I'll drop broken mw2 in favor of Reach come November. I'm not a fan of objective gametypes; never have been, but as far as slayer goes-

Agreed. Stop trying to be too clever and just stick with the gametypes already made

I watched my roommate play this for quite a while already.

I don't really see much that impressed me. It seems to be extremely incremental differences between this game and past multiplayer Halo modes.

The graphics look dated. They aren't bad by any means, but are people seriously calling this game "gorgeous"? Nothing remotely impressive.

That said, it does look like fun. Just nothing really special about it so far. It's a "good" FPS in an ocean of "good" FPS games, from what I can tell.

You do realize this is ultimately just a demo, right? A demo that's not even finished and meant as a tool to improve the final. And what's with the graphics ? What graphics do look gorgeous to you people, cause they all look practically the same to me

If it's just a demo and it's so limited, why are people going crazy for it? Because it's Halo. People went nuts over Halo Wars too... for whatever reason they thought was good to go nuts for a console RTS over.

I said this game looks fun. I don't know what else a game is supposed to accomplish. There are some bright spots, but ultimately it doesn't seem all that remarkable. It's a fun FPS. The genre is full of them. This game gets an incredible amount of attention based on the name alone.

Crysis was released in 2007 and looks far superior to this. Shattered Horizon looks better in nearly every respect. I think Killzone 2 and Gears of War 2 are both much better looking, even though they're obviously approaching it from a grittier angle. Several in-game models are completely ridiculous (most notably the trees from the single player gameplay footage). Otherwise it looks very indistinct from Halo 3 to me, as far as quality goes. Elder Scrolls IV is a different genre, but it's also FOUR years old, and STILL seems well ahead of what Reach is capable of so far (dynamic lighting seems much better in ESIV, for starters).

And yes, this is a demo. But if people are allowed to go ballistic over what I'm observing to be very minor differences in gameplay, I think I'm more than allowed as an experienced gamer to say it's just a bunch of hype because it's a Halo game. The original Halo was extremely impressive. Since then? Not so much.

if I want fun FPS, I play Team Fortress 2

maybe it's just me, but from the very start, Halo bores the out of me.

the first Halo was been there done that. a railroad shooter with little aliens using high pitched voices. futuristic weapons. big ing deal. i've played 129801937839 games, FPS games, with futuristic weapons on a railroad path.

seriously, what is the fascination with this average franchise?

the multiplayer? maybe I burned myself out on better games, like QUAKE 1's multiplayer for instance (the best ever multiplayer experience I've had to date, back in 1998-99), to give a about halo.

I will say though, that HALO's single player campaign was at least more fun than Half-Life 2's campaigns.

seems to me that these add-on games like ODST, Reach, Halo Wars, they are just cash cows milking the franchise name.

ODST was hyped as "Rainbow Six Vegas 2 in the HALO world, but better!" but that was not even close.

and again, because I CANNOT SAY IT ENOUGH, NO ING MATCHMAKING FOR FIREFIGHT/HORDE MODE?!?!?

i wouldn't expect anything more from Reach other than just another mediocre cash cow within the Halo universe.

Halo is an alright franchise. Halo 3 is a great game, actually, in that it does everything it aimed to do near-perfectly. However, I'm skeptical about anything else since. ODST is fail, Halo Wars is fail, Reach may be no different. We'll see

It's not that Halo is bad -- not by any measurable standard. It's a very solid game with great mechanics (I love the use of grenades and the strategy behind bouncing them around), but as Yahtzee puts it, it's a samey shooter that really doesn't do much to innovate.

It's better than 90% of other FPS games out there. The problem is, that still leaves a lot of games that I would consider to be superior.

My roommates love it. But they've never even tried using a mouse for an FPS, so it doesn't surprise me.

Halo Wars is a completely different game. ODST was originally built as just a cheapy expansion but instead they tried to add a little bit more to make it a $60 worthy game...they didn't do enough. Halo Reach on the other hand is pretty much Halo 4. There is no hesitation or second thought by Bungie of what this game is supposed to be

Did you play ODST at all? The campaign was actually better than Halo 3's and I am glad there was no matchmaking for firefight. Can you imagine playing for about half an hour and then having one or two of your guys drop out.

Infinity Ward should have done what Bungie did and released a beta for MW2. There were so many complaints about all the bugs in the on-line game.

Na, it's not going to have firefight in it, but invasion looks badass.
Is there conformation on this? I have read that Bungie would like to bring it back and yes add matchmaking with it.

Now that you help me realize my mistake, I am now happy I don't own an Aston Martin.

Can you imagine owning an Aston Martin and then having someone come and steal it? man, that would suck.

    I am glad I don't own one

Wasn't sure what to expect when I gave it a try today. I must say I was really impressed. The DMR is an absolute beast.

The matchmaking times were a bit on the long side though... kinda took the fun out of it.

That's cause everyone's still getting used to it so the matches go on forever. Pretty much...everyone kinda sucks right now

That is true, I know people who are a 50 in Halo 3, but aren't that good at the Beta.

I have to say I never really could get into Halo multiplayer online. But the single player is some of the best stuff that I have ever played. It just feels epic to me (I'm sure the great soundtrack has something to do with that). It's also one of the best games to do split-screen coop on.

Halo 1 just blew my mind (though I skipped the n64/ps1 gen and went from SNES to Xbox.. so that could be why). Halo 2's single player I just really could not get into.. 3 was amazing.. I'll put that in every now and again to this day to play.. ODST... I started it and got maybe an hour in and haven't touched it.. not because it's bad but I guess it just didn't get me enough to want to sit there and go through the game.

Oh and to the no match making on Firefight comment that someone posted.. that they were glad that they didn't have that because people might quit.. You must not be a fan on Nazi Zombies.. Sorry but that was a total fail on Bungies part.. I loved that mode and never got to play it like it should of been played because not to many of my friends wanted ODST.. But thank god other companys don't think that way or Nazi Zombies would be straight .

lol Should note on the Halo 1 blew my mind comment.. To put that in perspective the FPS that I was playing prior to Halo 1 was Wolfenstein 3d.. so going from that to Halo I'm sure you can see why I was blown away.

Really the only two times I can remember being blown away by a game I played was Halo 1 and Call of Duty 2.. both are on my top 5 list.
