Bonner has actually played very well in long stretches over the last two regular seasons. Hopefully he will do the same again and then we can trade his ass for someone that will hit a shot or two when it matters.
why all the hate on mason ? we were all hanging from his nuts last year when he was draining and 1's against the lakers. then this year we give him 0 minutes so he's not happy with it. so what ?

Are you ing serious?
We liked him when he played well.we were all hanging from his nuts last year when he was draining and 1's against the lakers.
We give him 0 minutes because he shoots under 10% from the field in the playoffs. Or maybe because he couldn't hit a shot all year.then this year we give him 0 minutes so he's not happy with it. so what ?
Mason was given plenty of opportunities this year to play. But he was awful all year long. You would expect that he would eventually come out of his shooting slump but it never happened.
I was really looking forward to Mason returning to form and hitting those 3s while the opposing players are worrying about Tim, Tony, Manu and Richard. Sadly, Mason was the most disappointing player for me this year..even more so than Jefferson.
He shrunk in the playoffs last year and shot career lows all season, despite averaging 20MPG. When his PT dipped, he complained and tried to get traded. When he didn't get traded and Parker went down with injury, he responded by continuing to play horribly.
He just isn't that good.
You have to let Bonner go. He will not be the 5th big if he's on the bench. It's the Finley syndrome. He's there, and Pop will reach out and play him.
He needs to go. I do give him props for making some shots the last couple of games, especially this one, but he also gave up plenty on the other end.
That turnover where Pop turned around and hit the table should be a good reminder of why we just need a smarter player out there.
Mason, Bogans and Bonner, GTFO IMHO. Get some though players out there that want to actually play defense and don't go into fetal position during the playoffs.
If either Bonner or Mason is re-signed I won't spend another dime on the Spurs for the duration of that contract.
One word; Najera.
The problem with Bonner is he's anti-clutch. Whether it's a regular season game on the line, or any of the post-season, dude is a choker.
A year overdue.
Spurs should have traded both while their value was higher last off-season. If that was the case they could be sitting with 2 1st rounders going into this year's draft and a young prospect at least.
It was obvious their opportunities was going to be scarce by the additions the Spurs made. Their value was bound to drop significantly.
I was praying they would move them at this time last year. Oh well I guess this off-season is fine.

The problem is too many of you apparently think because a guy hits a couple of shots on the offensive end, he 'brought it'.
For perspective, Bonner had three rebounds in THIRTY minutes tonight. You are a center on the San Antonio Spurs pulling down three freakin' rebounds, an average of one every ten minutes?
You could take any person posting in this thread, put them on the court in an NBA game, and they'd have three rebounds land in their lap in thirty minutes.
His rebounding is anemic, teams aren't afraid of him blocking shots (because he doesn't do it) so they go to the rack strong against us, and when he's in choker mode he also likes to put it on the floor and drive, and turns it over (like his three TOs tonight).
Bonner's +/- looks so good because he's often out there playing side by side with Tim, Manu, and Tony. Not shocking he puts up a decent plus/minus with teammates like that.
Not to mention that teams don't guard him anymore, allowing them to pack the paint.
My gut tells me Bonner will be resigned. The Spurs will lowball him and he'll still accept it, well knowing that no one else will sign him. I really hope they just part ways.
What I find hilarious is in 2007, the Spurs didn't wait for Bonner to figure out his market value with other teams. They signed him within the first days of free agency. And as free agency went along it turned out his market value would have been half of what he got. One of the few dumb moves the Spurs F.O made, but hey all F.O's make mistakes.
Not to mention that was when Spurs traded away Scola's right's to a rival to save 2.75 million.
i dont have a problem with bonner if he works on his rebounding and gets stronger he can be a of role player in which alot of people dont understand that thats what he is but at the same time i think he fits our system if we get a defense big man who can block shots and be presence in the middle and rebound also(hopefully splitter could be that) or haywood he will be fine for the cheap
Bonner may be considered a 'big" by some because of measurables. However in terms of game and ability, he's a "small". The Spurs are not going to upgrade by hanging onto a 6'10" stiff, that comes up small in the playoffs. He doesn't deserve a spot on this roster. He's not good enough.
Besides, there's absolutely no way he should be kept ahead of Ian Mahinmi.
All of which is why Pop and RC just may bring him back. ugh!

The dude is already 30, he'll be 31 by the 2nd round of next season.
How much stronger and better at rebounding could he possibly be at this point of his career?
well of course thats up to matt to decide to get better unless dirk or frye come over this offseason
i still beleive spurs need that guy to spread the floor it was working tonight except the spurs couldnt make a stop on the defense end and manu had a bad game
Don't get me wrong. I sincerely hope I never have to see Bonner in a Spurs uniform again.... but expecting him to play any kind of passable defense is pretty unrealistic. He's a one-trick pony, and he did that trick pretty well the last couple of games. All you can really ask of Bonner is that he hits open shots.
In my opinion, if a player has been in our system for a good 2 years and isn't directly contributing to a winning and defensive culture, than we need to turn the page and look elsewhere.
Pop looked to trade Nazr and Rasho almost as soon as he deemed them useless, we let Udrih and Udoka go, I see no reason why we can't let Bonner and Mason walk.
It's become less about what they can do as individual talents and more about what they add to our team, and it's just not enough for the amount of minutes they play and the kind of stages we need them to perform (playoffs).
Let their nearly $7 million dollar contracts combined come off the books I say. Turn the page.
The Bonner and Mason era never begin...
Exactly the point. Two straight years of postseason failure should be enough to convince everyone that Bonner doesn't belong. He's had ample opportunity and it's now more than obvious that he's simply not good enough.
Perhaps there is a place for him on an NBA roster, but not the Spurs.
