Yeah, she said "Christian Nation" but, in the interview, she makes it clear she's talking about the Judeo-Christian principles upon which is based the idea that men are endowed with unalienable rights by the God of Abraham and that our laws are fundamentally based on the laws of the Jewish Torah and the Christian Bible, encapsulated in the Ten Commandments.

Both of which are true statements. The Declaration of Independence confirms the first and the marble relief of the Ten Commandments in the U. S. Supreme Court chambers confirms the second.

    Nothing new here...

"men are endowed with unalienable rights"

There is no such thing. Rights of man are whatever MAN, not God, decide to grant and guarantee (and revoke). "Frankly, my dear, God doesn't give a damn"

    manifest destiny speak ?
One should bow whenever one is in the presence of the manifest goodness of our luminous and angelic patriots. For example, whenever they are mentioned, or you're just having a good day.

    Kowtow to my ancestors!

"We hold [this truth] to be self evident"

Apparently not so self-evident for some.

Just because some of the values in our declaration of independence and our Cons ution mirror values in Judeochristian religions, does NOT make us a "Christian" or even "Judeochristian" nation. To think otherwise is a willful misleading interpretation of history.

Several of our founding fathers were deists, meaning they did not subscribe to any religion but believed in G-d. Our origins are riddled with religious persecution, not only from England but also once we got here (ever looked into the origin of Rhode Island?). Moreover, there were, you know, some people here when we arrived and they have an entirely different religious belief structure.

And today, there are many, many Muslims, Hindus, Sikhs, and Buddhists in this country who are very much American citizens with full rights as citizens. If we were a "Christian nation" this would not be the case, any more than Islamic countries regard non-Muslims as second class citizens, and Christian nations in the past regarded non-Christians as second class citizens.

The separation of church and state means the opposite of what Miss Alaska seems to think it means - it means we are a secular nation with explicit tolerance for other religions and nonbelievers built right into our Cons ution. It's what has made our country great, and I'll be damned if the religious nutjobs are going to take it away.

I'm sure there are "values" in Vedanta, Hinduism, Buddhism, Mohammedism that align perfectly with the Const and D of I.
