Frye shot 43.9 percent from three-point range while averaging 11.2 points and 5.3 rebounds during the regular season. He started 41 of 81 games.

Frye would be an excellent Bonner replacement, and it looks like he is not picking up his player option. link

Looks like he is not picking up his option and might be a great replacement for Bonner.

PHOENIX - By saying he won't pick up his $2.1 million player option to return to the Phoenix Suns next season, Channing Frye has all but declared himself a free agent.
Frye shot 43.9 percent from three-point range while averaging 11.2 points and 5.3 rebounds during the regular season. He started 41 of 81 games.

So it could be a short negotiation, though Suns general manager and ex-UA Wildcat Steve Kerr was noncommittal.

"We'd like to have him back," Kerr said. "But we'll see what happens this summer."

Frye has proved this season, that he is worth more than the LLE contract he is on right now. he knows he can likely get MLE type money. so he is outside our price range anyhow. (unless Spurs fail to sign Splitter, then he might become an option). most likely scenario: Suns re sign him for slightly more than the MLE.

    oh,
and of course I do hope the Spurs series will push his price down. good chance to see this IMO, if the Spurs decide to just try to win in the paint and on the boards.

    Sigh.

Channing Frye is who the Spurs need Matt Bonner to be.

I remember when Frye was in college (I am also a U of A alum), Duncan was by far his favorite player even though he was a Suns fan. So... it wouldn't be out of the realm of possibility that he would want to play next to him.

The problem is, our MLE is basically slated for Splitter (crossing my fingers). The only way I see us getting Frye is through a sign and trade with Phoenix, who may or may not want to help us out.

I don't think he will get the full MLE, but somewhere between the LLE and the MLE.

We have traded recently so as long as we think it will benefit us, we won't dismiss it. (especially with Steve Kerr's connections to SA)

Frye wont take less to play here..he is looking to get PAID! Someone will overpay him with a $4-5 mil per year deal..Spurs don't have what it takes to get this guy.

Normally I would say there is no way he could 5 mil, but this offseason there will be alot of wasted $ thrown to average players.

Normally you wouldn't? Why? It happens every year, its just that some years are worse than others.

Ok, let me re-phrase myself...This year will be much worse with so many teams having Alot of salary cap space and few players who deserve big cash.

If I am Frye, I either stay my happy ass in PHX where he has a defined role and is getting quality minutes.....or bolt for a team like OKC who seems to be young and up and coming. Imagine Frye, Durant, and Green in the lineup....mismatch nightmare for team.

I think Frye is a great fit for the Suns and should sacrifice a little cash to sign a long term contract with them and try to build something for the next 5-7 years or so.

OKC already has 1 choker in Green, why would they want another?..

They need actual big men, not guys like Frye and Green..

Frye looks anything but a choker in this series. He is owning our defense with his long distance shooting.

Someone will give Frye too many years and too much money based on this performance. It's a lock.

I like Frye a lot, but I'm not sure he'd succeed at the level he's playing now if he was with the Spurs. Although, if we could get him, I think we should try.

Nash is the reason Frye is playing at the level his is. Parker/Hill wouldn't provide Frye with the same opportunities.

It's not really Nash by himself though. WE always hear how prior Spurs championship teams had awesome spacing on the offensive side of the ball. Even when Dragic ran pick and roll and had 2 guys move towards the elbows at the 3's created all kinds of havoc for the Spurs. As long as he makes shots, he is a perfect fit for that offense. Spurs run that too, but they move the ball as much. Can't tell if that's by design or a limit of the current personnel.
