Without having any expertise on medical issues, it sounds like the Spurs doctors told Mason that he can play with the injury without further damaging the hand. Of course we all know how the results worked out.

He didn't have the injury in the 2008-2009 playoffs and he missed all his shots then too.

I'm really not suprised he's been having hand problems for the 2nd half of the season, due to his shooting slump.

What I am suprised of is why Pop immediately played him the following game or 2 after he tore his ligament, and continued to do so as the season and playoffs progressed.

They shouldn't have waited for the results. Of course a jump shooter is gonna suck with a torn ligament in his shooting hand. He should've had the surgery when the injury occurred. He and the staff ed up.
    that's what i said

I'm sure he's having hand surgery just to boost his free agency. Might as well scope his knees as well, that might get him even more money.

I wonder if one of our insiders might be able to tell us whose decision it was for him to play. I'm not trying to be cynical but Mason did know this was a contract year. Sitting out for months doesn't get the $$$. Then again neither does shooting 8% in the playoffs.
Agreed. The fact that he was lobbying for a trade or playing time suggests he was the one pushing for playing time not the organization. He probably thought he could play through it. Noble.

    Stupid, but noble.

Who cares? He sucked before the injury, too. We all knew he had the torn ligament, but he and the Spurs agreed to let him keep playing, and like others have said, there's no way he has surgery during the season and has to sit out during a contract year.

Could just be a CYA statement to NBA teams to excuse his crappy play this season.
it's a cover story for his poor performance all season
Beat you to it, too I think someone probably beat me to it, as well.

Not too hard to read imbetween the lines on this one.

That's why he sucked so bad.
He sucked before dating back to the playoffs and he still sucks.

The guy sucks in all phases of the game.

By far the most horrible Spur I've seen in the past decade. Most over-hyped Spur coming into this year.

I'd take Shawnelle Scott over him. At least Shawnelle knows his limits offensively and doesn't try to put the ball on the floor for an easy 2 the other way.

    The Hegelian dialectic analysis:

Thesis -- Mason wants to excuse his poor shooting for pending free agency.

An hesis -- The Spurs didn't want to lose a guy to rehab that they had no use for past this season.

Synthesis -- The Spurs medical staff is not particularly astute (as the Mahinimi fans claim)?

Man, you guys are harsh. The guy plays with a painful serious injury and you go after him for it.
so he says. now. after a dreadful year, and no prospects for next year. i think rather than an injured hand, he has an aggressive agent.
