do it x1000....gay is perfect fit for the system....and he is a defensive minded player.....
ESPN Insider Scouting report: Gay is 6-9 with long arms and good leaping ability, so he should be an excellent defensive player. Instead, he's terrible, as his effort level fails to rival his talent level. His size grants him an edge in challenging shots and he'll pick up blocks and steals. However, he tends to give up as soon as he hits a screen, especially off the ball, and opponents beat him off the dribble much more easily than one would expect.

Additionally, he's an unmotivated help defender who usually just hangs out on the weak side. The proof is in the pudding: The Grizzlies allowed 9.3 points more per 100 possessions with him on the court, even worse than his 8.0 differential from a year earlier.

I posted this trade on a different thread but here it is again, since i agree manu rudy tony hill would crazy...

    http://games.espn.go.com/nba/tradeMa...radeId=25flosh

    Imagine
    Greg Oden, Splitter, (Bonner?)
    Tim Duncan, Blair, (Ian?)
    RJ, (bogans, gee?) Draft Pick
    Manu, Rudy Fernandez
    Tony, Hill, (temple?)

Wild Card: Nando De Colo, Raja Bell

Portland Will have more veteran experience and consistency with Dice
and will get a great point guard in Harris.

I can see NJ doing this if they land Wall, they fill roster with low salaries and very good young talent. Luring enough to land a Big time free agent? IDK but it would definitely make them better.

Its risky for the spurs especially with Odens constant health concerns but i think its a gamble worth the risk

if we can dream maybe we could pull something off with houston. I think they're shopping soft yao around. If he has a healthy season he can be very good taking the pressure off him next to the big three. put battier in and you have a team right there.

    Parker?
    Manu
    Battier
    TD
    Yao

And all of the sudden you a have a Gasol and a Bynum stopper, an a proven great KOBE defender

No, no no...we need a wing defender and 3 point shooter. Things Bruce did that we lost. We need a guy like Steve Novak or Korver. And then we need a idunno Sefolosha (I know it's gonna be hard to get him, esp now that he's on all-defense team) or play Hairston more and hope he turns into a good defender and not go after every block.

Spanish Manu and OG Manu would be fun to watch. And SPanish Manu can shoot the 3. Maybe we can ask Pritchard for a favor.

Battier is certainly a better defender, but Gay is a better all-around player than both RJ and Battier. Is that plain enough - in English?
agreed, and pretty good english there

battier = amazing work ethic on defense. anyone who can get in the mamba's head (although not on purpose) is a top-tier defender. probably the classiest guy in the league. never whines at refs. someone who shuts up and hustles his tail off every possession. that is a valuable commodity on any team.

gay = spectacular athlete, though perennial underachiever on defense. he would not fit well in SA at all. i see blown defensive rotations all the time by this kid. while points may increase over RJ, everything else would be lateral at best. one of the worst defenders ever at his size. watch a memphis game. no effort on defense, unless it's a easy block. there's a reason why the grizz were fodder for so long. z-bo and gasol are shaping up nicely, mayo is doing his thing, and he isn't improving at all.

Great points and all very true about Gay. However one thing to remember, he's played for Memphis. That means he's never played in structured, complex system and that emphasizes sound defensive strategties. I would go further to assume he's never been taught or had to learn basic defensive principles. That would certainly change under Pop - abeit not overnight. There's no doubt he'd be a maddening player to coach initially.

You seriously just called him mamba? lol

Its also important to point out that Gay is 8 years younger than battier...If the Spurs are in reload mode, Rudy Gay would be the guy to target.

They won't be able to trade Jefferson so they'll be stuck trying to find cheap options with high upside, assuming they give Splitter the full MLE. If we get Splitter the big man rotation is essentially set minus the stretch 4. Duncan/McDyess/Splitter/Blair are guaranteed minutes, and I bet we're faced with another year of Bonner. Pop needs that stretch 4, and unless we can find one in the draft (can't) then it's either Bonner or someone better than him for the same money. I don't think Pop will trust anyone to learn the system quickly enough to let his boy Bonner walk.

So in the draft they concentrate on wing defense and shooting. The only additions this year will be Splitter and rookies.

good point, but i'd have to see it happening. the kid thinks he's worth more than he's making though, so we'll have to wait and see

IKR! man, novak is like bonner, only he's made like 1 or 2 clutch threes
