The AP is losing it's whit.
1999
David Robinson
Tim Duncan
Mario Ellie
Avery Johnson 4 hall of famers. Officially 3 but do you want to bet against duncan not getting into a hall?
Don't agree with the premise of article but had to fulfill the challenge.
The AP is losing it's whit.
I tightened your writing up to highlight how you did not actually answer my observations. Maybe that will help you to be more on point.
the challenge was to name a coach that won a le WITHOUT HOFers
I don't know about a system but he might like a different court . . .
Put some hoops on that son and Pop's got some vineyardball.
Parker was an allstar in 2003? What?

nash: pop best coach in the league!
true words, even though he only wants to offend Jackson with it!
The OP was kind of funny, all of your personal feuds aside. The question was: which team has won a le without HOF'ers on it? To be fair, the OP says 3-4 HOF'ers, so that should be the benchmark.
In the last 20 years, the one that stands out is probably the 03-04 Pistons. Chauncey Billups should make the HOF. But Rip Hamilton or Tayshaun Prince? Doubtful. Rasheed Wallace - not likely, Ben Wallace - definitely not. Behind that, they had guys like Elden Campbell, Chucky Atkins, and Bob Sura.
The 93-94 Rockets had Hakeem and a bunch of role players. They were really good role players like Horry, Mario Elie, Kenny Smith, and Sam Cassell. But none of them are going to the HOF. That team is the second example that says that the 03-04 Pistons weren't a fluke. You can win a Championship without even 2 HOF players.
Believe it or not, the weakest team behind that (from a HOF'er standpoint) was the 92-93 Bulls. They had Jordan and Pippen. But behind that it's guys like B.J. Armstrong, Bill Cartwright, John Paxson, and Will Perdue. Decent players, but no HOF'ers in the group.
Two superstars, and some strong role players are enough. I won't even debate some of the Spurs teams, because of the inevitible flame wars. But nobody on any of our Championship teams would have been enough to get it done without Tim Duncan. For the most part, though, every Championship team needs a couple of HOF players.
If Pop isn't fired after virtually being swept out of the playoffs two years in a row I don't know what it is going to take. Yeah, Dallas let us win a game last year, to avoid the sweep.
Pop can't coach this team anymore. Michael Finley and Mason were right and Pop was wrong. They got off or were trying to get off the antic.
The Spurs are not done. But Pop is. They simply needed to get more athletic at the 4 and 5 and Pop refused to believe that by over playing Bonner.
The only coach worse that Pop in the West is Dallas' Carlise, now he is truly dumb. The Spurs should FIRE Pop and Beg Avery to coach. There is still a championship left in this team's core as long as Pop is not on the bench.
You guys continue to rock and it's quality posts like this that make ST a pleasure.
While i do NOT like Avery, it is hard to argue with his regular season record.
But of course regular season records do not mean Championships, do they Phoenix Suns?
In spite of the royal screw up vs Miami and similar faux paus vs Golden State, could Avery be just right for the Spurs? Worth considering.
GSH, thank you too for the Pistons, Bulls and Hakeem references, altho i will put Bob Horry in the HOF, voters may not. I was gonna post Pistons also but you expounded.
Sorry, meant all-star level play, but not official all-star selection obviously.
It is nice to know that the fans of every team share something: they all are disappointed when they don't go as far as could be hoped, and they almost all blame the coach.
So, pop is the worst coach in the west besides dallas? Hmm. So I guess you would have liked to have Nelson then? How about a healthy version of the Nuggets coach?
Or, how about that the coach with the clippers? Since Pop is the 2nd worse coach besides carlise in dallas, all of these should be better.
Idiots.
You mean Alvin Gentry, who coached the Clippers for 3 years before coming over to Phx and owning Popovich?
Will you be coming with T_Park_Cane to the next PollyAnna Poppers meet and greet?
http://www.spurstalk.com/forums/show...ight=PollyAnna
Is the wigga in your sig who is pouting while sitting on the red car going to the bathroom?
Cause it looks funny, esp with his pants down.
You're invited to the PollyAnna Poppers meet and greet. You qualify.
Ok, gentry is a very good coach. But he does have a deeper team than the spurs, no doubt.
You mentioned that Avery should be considered; that is crazy talk. He has dropped off the map of coaching discussions for a reason; he brings the negatives of larry brown without as many of the positives. He is not superior to pop in any way. Pop has not lost his team either.
how about the following coaches:
Kurt rambis
jeff bower
jay triano
flip saunders
paul westphal
eddie jordan
mike d'antoni
Lionel Hollins
John Keuster
mike brown
vinnie del negro
Name ones "better" than pop. Since he is the 2nd worst coach in the league, it should be easy.
Who the is T Park? You're a god damn idiot.
so is Pop looking for a system that fits him better or is he wanting to go to a team with better players?
I don't think this is really an AP report.
Larry Brown - 2004 Pistons
Probably 0 HOF's
Maybe 1 depending if Elden Cambell the atomic camel gets in
what? a black man can't be a "wigga". that sucked worse than the thread man
Oh but they can, and are B-Rad.
you're stupid, what makes you think i'm white?
Larry Brown
Chauncy billups will make the hof. Probably not a first ballot guy, but he will make it in. Rasheed is also a longshot to make it.
