Seriously, how does this perennial loser whose greatest career accomplishment as a player was winning a Finals MVP in a losing effort deserve to be the NBA's logo?
He was 1-8 in the Finals and wasn't even the best player on that 72 championship team.
Losing defined his whole career. Even that famous half court shot came in a losing effort.
It's inconceivable how the NBA back then stamped their brand with a guy who wouldn't know winning if it dropped from the sky and fell on his face when they had Bill Russell available. Racism?
No one would know or care know who this guy is if he didn't GM his way into fame by signing Shaq and drafting Kobe. He'd likely be as relevant as Bob Pet if not for that.

Jerry West was a great player, but I think Cousy would be a good logo. He brought the kind of showmanship that is still prevalent in the NBA, fancy passes and whatnot, as well as being a great player and winning multiple rings.

Dang Son. Bash on Kobe, Bynum, Phil, Odom, Magic, Kareem, Dr. Buss and the other characters in Laker-Camelot but keep one of the most respected, humble, gentlemen of the game out of this filth.

Lakers weren't running when West was christened the NBA's logo.
Jerry West and the Lakers were perennial losers.
Bill Russell was the top dog in town.
Even players like the aforementioned Bob Pet won before West.

You're logic is extremely inconsistent. You're the one who is always placing more importance on post-season performance over regular season performance, which is true and something I agree with, but when it comes to Duncan, your obsession, you conveniently forget that.Ok, asshole. Personally, I'd pick Mikan or Russell, but no one really challenges this issue because he's such a nice guy, and no one really gives a but losers like you. He was the the first true marketable star of the NBA. Good looking wholesome kid with a great jumper, a nice handle, and a knack for hitting clutch shots. The game wasn't known during Mikan's days, Russel was black (couldn't have a being the Logo of a white man's sport), and there were no other big name players that fit the bill. They didn't honor him with the Logo because he was the best, but it was his image.
You Spurs fans should have no problem with this because your very own has been honored with a le that is extremely far from true. No one really cares if you all call Duncan the greatest power forward of all time. No one is going to question that he was really a center. No one is going to question that he was never really great at nothing. He wasn't a great scorer, he wasn't a great rebounder, he wasn't a great shot blocker, he was just consistent, that's all. Not to mention, Karl Malone has 16,000 more points scored and 4,000 more boards than Duncan!!!No one is going to make a big stink over you guys honoring him this way, why? Because he's a nice guy.
Duncan's playoff resume absolutely crushes Malone's. So what if Malone played until was 70 and amassed a great of regular season stats, when the playoffs rolled around, his efficiency dropped dramatically, while Duncan elevated his game.
Look at the stats, revisit the games, there's only been a handful of players better than Duncan in the playoffs. You personally saw him close down the Forum and send 3 peat packing with 33-17 on 70% and 36-17 on 60 something percent, both road closeout games, but yet you can never put your pride aside, be objective, and give credit where it's in due.
And I don't give a about best PF of all time label. At the end of the day, he's a top ten player of all time and it's well deserved.
