Gasol just took what Amare was giving him (wide open layups). Yes he played well but we've even seen Kwame Brown have a good night against Amare when he's in DGAF mode. Kobe literally made the right play down the court every time. As pissed off, angry and frustrated as I was last night, the ball movement and execution from LA's offense was great basketball.

That is true. Wasn't long ago when Bynum would casually drop 25+ on Amare and the Suns.

Still Pau is playing at much higher level than he was 2 years ago. Better rebounder, defender, midrange jumpshooter and most importantly, I think Kobe and Ron beat the vagina out of him.

Players that without a question are better than Pau right now:

Lebron, Wade, Nobody else. And I could even make a case for Pau > Wade right now.
GTFO ...as good as Gasol played ...

Kobe was the MVP of the past 2 games ...
he killed the Suns in the 3rd in Game 1 ...
he got ron going in the 1st, and then Pau late in game 2 ...

one of the best 2 game stretches for Kobe in the playoffs since the 3 peat years ...he played really smart both games.

One side note:I was not happy with our defense except on amare ...Kobe played well last game on "d" .
This time we hedged to much to Nash/Amare pnr ...our secondary rotations were horrible, by ALL Lakers kobe included.

Oh I agree completely LA has completely neutralized any pick and rolls and that's mostly cause of Gasol improved defense compared to 2008. I miss the days of being able to pick and roll Smush parker and Kwame Brown to death . I just find it remarkable how everyone (including myself) bought into Lebron being better than Kobe during the regular season and now we're seeing who the real leader is.

It didn't work, but Gentry's game plan wasn't as terrible as people make it out to be. Double team and leave Artest open as a catch and shoot player. Phoenix doesn't have players capable of defending Kobe and Gasol 1 on 1 without help, so Gentry's best option was to leave Artest open and force the ball out of their hands in the first half. Artest did what he was supposed to do and hit all of his open shots, which makes it virtually impossible for Phoenix to defend LA. Not Gentry's fault.

Funny how that works out. A 42 year old Grant Hill and Amare skull ed Manu and Duncan on the defensive end last series

You make a good point. Can't blame Gentry for his team lacking the ability to guard a transcendental talent like Kobe or a highly skilled big in Pau.

I tend to agree with you, Gentry is not making a lot of lineups, coaching mistake this serie.

We are of course looking at Artest, Kobe, Pau performance but once again I thought Odom is making a lot of damage, yesterday was not a 19/19 line but 17/11 and 4 assists is very solid.

Kobe's D was horrible last night... in fact, if Stouemire hadn't have stolen the Defensive Hall of Shame spotlight, and especially if the Suns would have won, Kobe's total lack of discipline on D would be a major topic of discussion.

Dudley is not a guy whom you can cheat away from to give help. Time and again, Kobe would wander away... including to give help toward Ron Artest on Grant Hill for crying out loud. Dudley got wide open looks and just didn't miss.

I'm not going to say Dudley outplayed Kobe last night because Kobe did get a ton of dimes... but given their roles (role player vs. star player) Dudley won the matchup IMO.

Kobe had better wise up or this is going to be a major problem in Phx where I expect their team as a whole to play better.

Gotta give Dudley credit, he's the only Suns player been backing up his mouth.

lol, the same people who are now overrating Gasol (can make a Gasol > Wade case, really?) are the same people who probably thought Kobe wasn't a top 10 player based on a few poor games in the Thunder series.

Everyone's just a clueless knee jerker.

Thank you at least someone gets it. Even against the Spurs, Grant and Amare had tons of help on Duncan and Manu. They trapped Manu on pick and rolls a lot and sometimes had a weakside defender come over to strip Duncan right after his spin move, the difference is San Antonio doesn't have the chemistry or spacing to beat double teams like LA does. It seems like every role player on LA knew Phoenix's defense would lead to them getting open looks while Kobe and Gasol are fully prepared to get them the ball and have confidence that they'll make the shots.

Agreed. I was not real impressed with Gentry during his run with the Clippers, but he seems to be doing a fine job coaching the Suns now.

LA is just hitting shots right now. Don't forget that there have been plenty of games where Artest/Farmar/Brown and even Fisher were not hitting those wide open looks. Things would get really interesting in the Finals where the Lakers would have to face a top-tier defense again. They hit those shots last year against the Magic's great defense, we'll see if they could do it again against BOS/ORL.

I don't really see much in the way Gentry could be doing different except to keep Frye glued to the bench... except that creates its own dilemma because he is one of their key pieces and sometimes you just have to run a guy out there and hope he turns it around.

This is going to sound weird, but I was actually getting angry at how easily the Lakers were scoring on the unbelievably bad Phx defense last night. I don't mean to sound like i'm overlooking the Suns already, but i'm seeing this series more as a tune-up for the finals than an actual contest. And watching Gasol and Odom roll to the hoop like bulls past a matador with no opposition doesn't help us at all. It might as well be a practice drill, and we already run practices.
