Also Cleveland is in no position to play "hard-ball"...either they let him walk for nothing or they try and send him out West and get what they can. If I'm the Mavs I give Damp (who will be bought out and likely return), Butler, JJB and a 1st round pick....wouldn't even offer Beaubois. Suck it losers

Bad thing for Cleveland: James has to agree to a S&T.

Spurs trade would leave him with Duncan and Gino, that window is even shorter than the one with Dirk/Kidd/Marion/Haywood beside him.

He also wont accept a S&T where the new team send too much talent back to Cleveland because then he is nowhere near a le (like Kevin Martin + Ariza like some Rockets fans are dreaming).

Cleveland is just completly ed if he wanna go...
Dallas is 100 times better city than San Antonio....they actually have other professional teams and things to do. Lebron would never even consider the Spurs....

And I think he could be fined significantly and maybe even a 7 figure one. Having said that what does Cuban care about money if he lands James? Not a damn thing. If the Spurs or any team pay a $1M fine and get James as a FA w/o a S&T then it would be well worth it.
I'm not sure how drawing a gigantic fine to say what everybody already knows is going to increase the odds of his team signing Lebron James. If the NBA thought he was doing it to gain a competetive advantage, they could quickly remove any such advantage. Typical Mark Cuban attention whoring.

    Calculated reason for Cuban's comments?
    by Tim MacMahon

    link

Mark Cuban has publicly stated what anybody with an ounce of basketball sense already knew: Heck, yes, he hopes to bring LeBron James to Dallas.

That might be music to the ears of Mavericks fans, including the folks who built lebrontothemavs.com, a site that Cuban tweeted about Thursday morning. However, the comments Cuban made in an interview posted on CNNMoney.com also violate the letter of the NBA’s anti-tampering law.

That can’t possibly be news to Cuban, who knows every nook and cranny of the NBA rules and regulations. Just in case this particular rule slipped anybody’s mind, the league office sent a memo about it to teams in December 2008.

That memo reminded teams that “the only proper response is to decline comment” if asked about a potential free agent prior to when the market opens on July 1. "Penalties for tampering include suspension of the offending person, prohibition of the offending team from hiring the person being tampered with, forfeiture of draft picks, and individual and/or team fines of up to $5 million," the memo stated.

Cuban didn’t immediately reply to an e-mail from ESPNDallas.com regarding his potential tampering violation, and we’re also still waiting for a response from the league office. (UPDATE: Cuban replied a few hours later: "no. Its not tampering. Not even close. nice try")

That won’t stop me from speculating about Cuban’s motives for possibly drawing the wrath of old pal David Stern. I'm going to give Cuban credit for being smart enough to have a calculated reason for his comments.

Perhaps Cuban figures it’s worth paying a seven-figure fine to let LeBron know in no uncertain terms that he’s serious about trying to add the two-time MVP to the core of a 55-win team that already features two future Hall of Famers.

Those certainly weren’t the first comments Cuban has made that might have been intended for LeBron’s ears. For example, Cuban definitely knew that LeBron was a huge Cowboys fan who loved big stages when in the aftermath of the All-Star Game he raised the possibility of playing occasional home games in JerryWorld. But the name LeBron never slipped out of Cuban’s lips while discussing the Mavs’ hopes to make a sign-and-trade splash in free agency.

Cuban crossed that line during his CNN sitdown.

This probably isn’t a serious enough violation to get slapped with the more serious penalties, like being prohibited from pursuing LeBron or forfeiting draft picks. Is it worth a few million bucks to possibly improve the long-shot odds of persuading LeBron to force a sign-and-trade deal with Dallas?

Hey, how often do two-time MVPs just entering their prime become free agents?

Two? Is he including Kidd? That's kind of like us signing David Robinson to another contract and then saying "come play with us, we have two hall of famers on this team." I think after three years of playoff failures, the bust that is Jason Kidd is not attracting any top players to play with him.

    Im interested!

Remember it has to be realistic why the Cavs would do the deal and the leftover Spurs team shouldnt be too crippled or James declines.

Mark Cuban's not supposed to be commenting on potential free agents. He's very probably the stupidest person in the NBA, and that's quite an accomplishment.

This from the team selling the privilege of playing with Jason Kidd, 37 going on 50.

Four championships = proven success. Spurs were closer to a championship this year than the Mavs.

He has nothing to offer that Clev would want.
I really start to believe this board is full of re s. Looks like its really to complicated to understand the only way the dustchip works...

Its not what Cleveland want or Dallas with the best value package or whatsoever....

Not that Cleveland owner Dan Gilbert would be excited about such an offer, but it’d be a heck of a lot better than letting LeBron stay in the Eastern Conference and getting nothing in return. Make no mistake, the only way the Mavs can pull this off is if LeBron presents a Dallas-or-Chicago/New York/New Jersey/Miami ultimatum.

The tough part is convincing King James that his best option is to come to Dallas. Cuban would have no problem putting together a package to make losing a legend-in-the-making as painless as possible for the poor Cavs.
Its all about James wanting and playing his cards. If he does, yes you will see a Damp/Roddy for James trade (maybe Butler-Jamison included).

It will look ty on the paper but will be still by far Clevelands best choice when James is gone. The beauty of the contract and that all big FA AND max cap teams are in the eastern conference.

Lets see how many minutes until the next re not getting it...

He has nothing to offer that Clev would want. If Cube's wants to win he needs to blow up his team and start over. Marion, Damp, Terry and Kidd are all way overpaid and bring little to the table. Terry can score but nothing else, he surely isnt worth 55mil.

If Dirk wants to win he needs to opt out and go somewhere else
    Yes he does.

How's the probability could this happen ?
In fact I think Cuban interests in everyone who soon will be free-agent.
And he seems very enjoy spending money.
That makes me worry about the Spurs~
    Cubes is interested in LeBron?

He must be out of his god damn mind!!

I think Cleveland would play hardball with Dallas. The only sign and trade they would do would have to include Dirk. They would be better off starting over in a rebuilding process and letting LeBron walk than taking on the Mav scraps.
You're dumb. If Dirk is included in the trade, I highly doubt LeBron would want to come here.

HUH? Do you think Cleveland would rather let LeBron walk and get nothing in return or let LeBron go TO THE WEST and get Damp's 13 mil expiring, Roddy Buckets, Butler and picks? It's an easy answer.

If LeBron wants to go to Dallas, he'll go to Dallas.

he might consider it but the Spurs' chance for getting Lebron in some sign and trade would be slim to none. I'm sure there are plenty of other NBA cities Lebron would choose to live over San Antonio.
