I know it's virtually impossible to attain Dirk with the assets Spurs have available.

I just find it humorous he opted out.

He wouldn't sign for the MLE and Cuban would never sign-and-trade him to SA. Even if Nowitzki was interested in becoming a Spur, he couldn't do it unless he took a 75% pay cut.

Maybe the Spurs can sign him and get Cuban to pay his salary.

I guess you find it humorous that Dirk's going to take less money so we have a better chance at attaining another superstar? Dirk's made it pretty clear he's not going anywhere, so I really don't know what's so funny about it.

Sorry, but how does that make any sense? The Mavs are well over the cap even if Dirk takes a substantial pay cut. Any pay cut he takes is simply a transfer of funds from Dirk to Cuban. It wouldn't change the team's ability to make FA signings or trades. It would just improve Cuban's bottom line.

While I can't see him leaving Dallas, the other teams with cap space have got to consider making him some max offers. He potentially adds another big to pair with a Lebron or Wade that can space the floor. Frankly, I think he's a much better player than Bosh, albeit older and a bigger risk for a huge contract in the long-term.

Dirk opting out gets you down to like $18 mil over the cap instead of being around $32 mil.

Dirk is going nowhere. He has 3 years left , maybe 4. He has not room to improvement,,,,just the decline will start next year.

I wouldn't mind him as a Spur, but they can't afford him. It's moot.
