Actually as far as just running around doing random crap, even though it's not the west, Just Cause 2 blows this out of the water.

    Anyways.. just my little rant.

I'm not reading the previous posts for fear of spoilers/cool surprises, but does anyone have this for PS3? I might get it within the week and I'd like to be a gang member if anyone's got PS3 on here (my friends have XBOX). I have loose morals, but I don't mind being a good guy either.
I'm running it on my PS3, but I haven't had the time to play multplayer just yet. I don't even know what my SN is...I think its One_Slayed_Three or w/o the underscores...lol

I like Gun and all... but there is literally nothing to do on that game once you complete all the missions. You can't even play poker, because they count as side missions. Except for randomly getting attacked by bandits, the world of Gun is completely lifeless.

And the map is as tiny as it can be. You can travel from one side to the other in less than a minute on horseback.

Yeah, that pisses me off. I was filling up my pack with various meats/skins in Tall Trees when a bear jumped me from behind - instant death. Then I lost all that stuff I just collected.

I bought this because Alan Wake was sold out. And I'm glad. Really enjoying it.

But yeah, my favorite part so far was when some no-good, two-bit lured me into an ambush. I killed the dudes, tied her up and on a whim decided to take her down to the tracks just to see if I could. When the 5 achievement points popped up with the message 'hogtie a woman, leave her on the tracks and watch the carnage' I laughed my ass off.

Alan Wake lasted me 7 minutes. Biggest POS I recall. I even feel bad for people that wasted a dual layer DVD to pirate it.

I'm pretty excited to play it. I wasn't, until about a week before it came out, but I heard a lot that piqued my interest. More so since its release. It isn't getting blasted as broken or glitchy or anything, so I'd be curious as to what you found so objectionable within the first 7 minutes that you wrote off the next several hours?

More or less, I trust the opinions from the Joystiq Podcast more than any other gaming outlet's... and as they describe Alan Wake as a must play, I'm most certainly going to play it.

But still, I'm glad I ended up with RDR first.

Horror games are not usually in my wheelhouse, but I'm psyched for 2 reasons-

    1. I'm very intrigued by its episodic gameplay, the building of a real story in digestible chapters. In addition, the northwestern motif is right in my wheelhouse.

    2. The gameplay pacing is (apparently if descriptions holds true) pretty amazing in its ability to build tension by the use of light. I'm pretty turned off by the typical idea of horror gameplay which throws shrieking zombies at a bersome and clunky player character, but I'm all for trying desperately to fight through darkness, just to get to the only safe point; a dot of light in the far distance. That's real fear and pacing. As opposed to a bunch of startling moments.

Might be pretty personal. I don't like/enjoy the theme to begin with. I'm the kind of guy that despises horror movies because they never manage to engulf me in their make believe. For whatever reason, the rare times I catch a horror flick and they're butchering somebody, in the back of my head I'm thinking: "Well, there's the camera guy filming this, plus the director, plus 20 other people there, including the guy holding the ketchup bottle that's gonna spray the floor to pretend this was some major carnage...". You get the idea.

Particularly about Alan Wake, I started playing it just like any other game, and I was really trying to like it. Especially because RDR was not due out for another week so I needed something to play in the meantime. It started kinda slow paced with this story set in the NW... then the meat of the game came about, and it was basically this linear thing, where you basically have to go from point A to point B, turning on generators, picking up notes and killing baddies, while recharging life in bright spots on the way. I mean, under the nice graphics and whatever the 'plot' is, that's all your game mechanics right there.

I play games to have fun. This thing became a repe ive 'job'. I've finished games like this for just the sake of going through the plot or looking at all the nice graphics. But I didn't think this game was exceptional on either.
So it was really disappointing. I ended up going back to Just Cause 2, a game I completed a long time ago, but being open ended and non-linear, and just flat out fun to explore, I was glad I didn't spend one more minute in Alan Wake. I seem to remember that the original concept of the game was to be open-ended. Maybe if that would have been the case, then it would have been more fun.

I would say rent it. And if you're ok with the game mechanics after the first 10 or so minutes, then go ahead and buy it. But you might end up sorely disappointed. I was.

on the review, because damn, I'll respect anybody's input about a game. But yeah, Ima still play it. Maybe I'll take your advice and make it a rental first.

While I respect your opinion though, I'd suggest, since you already dropped money on the (unless you rented) that you check out the first few minutes of this week's X3F Podcast. http://xbox.joystiq.com/2010/05/24/x...ntly-deceased/

They literally talk about how laughable and horrible and ugly the opening scene with your wife and the first chapter are, compared to the rest of the game. Not trying to change your opinion or anything, because I haven't played the game and you're en led to your own life, but , if you bought the , you might as well take said review into consideration.

I just hope I'm not on your side after/if I spend my $60
