The main incentive for US players to win the worlds is the fact they can skip the Tournament of the Americas in 2011 and just go straight to the 2012 Olympics, which is all Americans really care about.

There has never been one tournament in HISTORY where every top player from every country played. It sure the has NEVER happened in Olympics history.
The winner of the Olympics qualifies for the next world championship. So using your "logic" the Olympics is nothing more than a qualifying tournament for the Olympics.
Only for the winner. Since Americans don't care about the Worlds as much, automatically qualifying for the Worlds will just be a bonus for winning the Olympics, which is something they care about much, much more.

The qualifying tournament for the Olympics is next year. Not this year. Teams do not even have to play in the world championship and they can still be at 2012 Olympics.
