Aww..that sucks man...my second favorite player of all time, behind Nolan...so lame. Oh well...guess it was his time. Always thought he'd break the homerun record before he retired. Damn injuries. And what a beautiful swing.

+1
Sad to see him go, but it was his time.
Yeah, probably ended up losing 3 seasons due to injury. Imagine if he hit, say, 30 HRs per year? He'd could've passed Babe.
Maybe the best other than Barry Bonds I've ever seen in my 30 years...Good luck Ken
the best baseball game of all time ...

Was a big reason I played Little League as a kid growing up in Southern California. I dont know if I would've been able to stay out of trouble if it weren't for him being a great hitter and an inspiration. I ended up playing from 6-14 and though I could hit for power and stuff, I ended up becoming a pitcher from 8-14. However, I will always be thankful for the sweet swing the Ken Griffey Jr. had and will forever be thankful he was the impetus behind my affinity for baseball.
Also, many didn't know he had attempted to commit suicide and suffered from pleurisy as well. Good luck, Kid Griffey! Enjoy a well-deserved retirement.

You young kids are re ed. Griffey's first SNES game owns all other baseball games ever. It's not even debatable. There wasn't a baseball game ever that came close until The Show.
Best thing about that game was how you could strike out swinging but your man would still go "Aw, come on!" to the ump. Also all my friends swore there was a way to charge the mound after getting beaned, but i think that was bull .
His second SNES game, Winning Run or whatever....that game sucked balls.
Griffey in his prime vs. Barry in his prime minus steroids = Griffey easy.
This is the one that sucked.

Are there any other players who debuted in the 80's still playing?
to me, no doubt he has the home run record if he stayed healthy.
See ya in Cooperstown, kid.![]()
Definitely! Have that game hiding somewhere.

Great player. Could've possibly been the greatest of all time if not for injuries. I remember desperately scrambling up 45.00 as a 10 year old to buy his '89 Upper Deck rookie. Hottest card of the early 90s that seemingly had unlimited potential value.
I jumped off the Griffey bandwagon in my early teens when I became a Juan Gonzalez fan (Although I'm a California native and Dodger fan, Juan was my fave player growing up). They were clearly the two best players during the first half of the 90s so there was always an ongoing debate about who was the better player, and if you were a fan of one you probably weren't a fan of the other. I can remember rubbing it in to my Griffey fan friend when Juan beat Griffey in the '93 Homerun Derby.
But history is the ultimate judge and there's now no comparison between the two. I doubt Juan was clean during his prime, and following his hamstring injury in '04, he was never again the same player.
And as far as the best baseball games of the 16 bit era goes, this is my choice:
