Don't bother. This prospect needs to grow some serious muscles. He is going to get pushed around in the paint if he wants to play C in this league.
The last thing I want to see the Spurs do is use a first round pick to draft an international player. Don't get me wrong, I like Monte and Vesely...but the Spurs need help NOW and can't afford the possibility of international players not crossing the pond for a couple years.
Maybe he matured quite a bit during the season, but last Summer Motiejunas a) was extremely soft b) had an undefined game, still needed to figure out what kind of player he wanted to be c) had an underdeveloped body d) needed to work on explosiveness, squats and lunges everyday.
His numbers for Treviso aren't really that good too, especially rebounds and blocks.
Unless he progressed a lot this year, he probably could use more time in Europe. International players who don't do well in their first season -> high probability of busting.
thx Mogrovejo for your good takes !![]()
I didn't like him as the 3rd pick where he was projected fairly early, but his stock seems to be dropping (e.g., He's 21st in Chad Ford's mock 2.0, 16th on Jay Bilas's board etc) If he's availalbe at 20(Not definite obviously, but looking increasingly more likely) Where would you rank him among the others on the radar, potentially as a stretch 4 option to replace Bonner(But leaving the cupboard bare at SF)
If Motiejunas is available at the 20th pick, I think the Spurs run to the podium. Just too much potential.
Amen Brother.
The Spurs have done such a good job of abandoning the "draft-n-stash" philosophy the past couple of years, that I haven't even considered that to be a possibility with this #20 pick. I believe the FO is well aware that they need immediate help NOW and will likely NOT dip their toes into the international pool. At least until the 2nd round maybe.![]()
meanwhile I think he will pull out.
being drafted in the 20-30 area is somehow a worst case scenario for an international player. (rookie scale). at 19 he still has 2 more shots.
At the 20th spot he'd be a steal, too much upside to pass there, even if I have massive doubts about his ability to fill that potential, but as mountainballer says, he'd just pull out if he's falling that far.
Anyone heard any rumors as to whether he intends to stay in for this year?
I saw him all season long..too green fon NBA, but he'll deserve a spot in the future. I think h'll spend another year in Europe, perhaps in Treviso again.

Lithuanian big man likely to pull out of Draft

The chances of an international player cracking the top half of the first round of the June 24 Draft is decreasing rapidly, with 19-year-old forward Donatas Motiejunas of Lithuania likely to pull his name from consideraton before the June 15 deadline for international players under 22 to withdraw from the Draft. The 7-footer, who is playing for Benetton Treviso this season, was looking to get a guarantee from a top-12 team in the Draft before coming to play in the NBA next season, but none was forthcoming.
In a sign that Motiejunas is likely to stay in Europe, he had his tonsils removed on Monday after dealing with throat infections for the better part of a year. The time he'll spend recuperating instead of practicing and working out for potential NBA employers would indicate that he's made his decision.
A source close to Motiejunas put the chances of his withdrawal from the Draft at "90-10."

Bad news.
It looks more and more that Spurs are in a situation at #20 where trading up or down is the best solution.
If Séraphin, who is injured, also withdraw his name, we could end up with a draft without a single international player in the first round.
Some late first round pick should be available because there won't have good draft and stash players.
Seraphin may be the last possible 1st rounder. Can't think of another.
You never know. I don't think anybody expected Mahinmi to be picked in the first round. At least outside of the Spurs.
Motiejunas is out:

as expected, any more news on seraphin? I though DX posted on twitter he was also out..
Séraphin isn't out for the moment but he will likely make the choice to withdraw his name.
