The Lakers are the Lakers because of their city. If they were in another city, they'd be a different team. The Lakers are, in many ways, an embodiment of all the glamor, money, success, drama, starpower, and superficial nature of LA.

I think it's really cool that some teams have successfully taken on the personas of their cities. That's what makes them loved and hated. The Yankees and Steelers have done this also.
