He has withdrawn from the draft and will return for his senior season. Would have been an interesting prospect had he dropped, great shot-blocker.

Damn that body looks like Travis Outlaw's![]()
The Spurs were looking to acquire a young, athletic shot-blocker at the trade deadline and Varnado certainly fits that role.
The questions about him center mostly on his upside offensively. He's only 6'9, 220lbs so even with a nice wingspan he's never going to be an "inside presence" on the NBA level. And, currently he doesn't have the offensive skill set to push him out to the perimeter.
Still, he's such a prolific shot blocker that most draft sites have him pegged as an early second round pick. That puts him squarely between the likely draft area for the Spurs.
If the Spurs could work to trade up in the second round on draft night though, a guy like Varnado definitely has a role on this team.

Varnado has also worked out for several NBA teams: Detroit, Miami, Minnesota, New York, San Antonio and Washington.
More workouts are lined up, with Boston, Milwaukee and Toronto. Varnado said he's especially looking forward to working out for the Celtics.
His defense is definitely sick. So he did enter the draft?
He is a college Senior.
oh. I was looking at the above posts. didn't realize they were from last year.
If hes there at 49 he'd be a wonderful pickup. Doubt he hangs around that long though.
