I'm going to LA in July and I was wondering if they give tours at the Staples Center.

    They don't.

    Tours
STAPLES Center is home to five major professional sports team and hosts numerous concerts, award shows, and special events year-round. Due to our event schedule, we are unable to offer tours of the building.

A couple of buddies that I'm going with are Laker fans, and I'm planning the trip so I thought I'd check into it.

I guess you could take them down Figueroa between Staples and USC and show the area of the great Lakerfan riot of 2000.

Going to LA for a couple of days after Vegas in August, I'll definitely hit you up for tips when the time comes.

    Check this thread, res.

The Angeles Crest Highway is closed right now because of some nasty mudslides after the huge fires there last year, though, so I guess you'd have to skip that suggestion. If you ask me in August, I'll probably be gone (I'm heading out on a trip then too). Also, that really brutal hike there I talked about turns out to be 22 miles, not that it matters much, since it's gaining 10,300 feet and that's the bad part (it's not too bad if you take the tram up and hike to the summit from there though).
