"Steve Kerr will not return as president of basketball operations and general manager of the Phoenix Suns.

Kerr's contract expires June 30 but he had been expecting and hoping to return until negotiations for his contract and an opportunity to return to television as a NBA commentator prompted him to leave the organization after three years as its GM, Suns Managing Partner Robert Sarver said.

Kerr, who could not be reached for comment, reportedly was asked to take a cut in salary during negotiations........"

I would bet the Barkley is the highest paid analyst on TV. I would also be that, even though he'd be a rookie GM, he wouldn't come cheap.

If Kerr was asked to take a pay cut by that cheap-ass Suns owner, I highly doubt he'd be able to meet Barkley's expected asking price.

I'm also sure that Barkley will not leave a cushy, high-paying gig to take a lower-paying one.

Kerr will stay on the job until June 30, overseeing the draft and continuing any unlikely contract-extension talks with forward Amar'e Stoudemire, who can become a free agent July 1. Coach Alvin Gentry will take on a larger role while the Suns search for a GM.

Internal candidates will be considered, but Kerr's No. 2 man in basketball operations, Senior Vice President and 18-year Suns staffer David Griffin, also has a contract that expires June 30. A national search is expected to include Dennis Lindsey, the San Antonio assistant GM who was Minnesota's top GM candidate last year before withdrawing.

If David Griffin isn't promoted, he's def. a leading candidate. I don't know much about Lindsey but I think David Griffin is a dimwitted stick so I'd be happy with him, the last time a team hired San Antonio's assistant GM it worked out really well so hopefully this is a similar situation.

I'm just thankful he'll be taking over for Collins at TNT; now if we could just get Barry to take over for Miller, Scott, Jones, his brother and a host of others, we'd be set.
