I think my evo is broken. every time i tilt the phone to text it does not flip. It stays on the vertical. I calibrated with the g-sensor but nothing. You seem like the main cheerleader for the evo cry havoc. Help me out![]()
Why not? Like I said, I can do almost as much on my phone as I can on a computer. Keep in mind that at one time in history, it would have been ludicrous to compare a laptop to a desktop. Now they are essentially small replica of their larger brethren, and can quite easily be compared. The EVO has very similar specs compared to my first netbook. Processor, RAM, storage are all nearly identical. And for me, the screen is more than adequate for most internet viewing on the go.
I'll put it to you this way... now that I've got this phone I see absolutely no reason to ever bring my netbook with me again. To me, if a device is replacing another device, then they can be compared, at least in some respects.

Cheerleader? Okay.
Make sure you're tilting the device the correct way. It won't tilt to the right.
That said, go into settings and make sure you have tilt sensing enabled. It's under "Sound & Display" and there should be a check next to Orientation.
I'm sure she ment that in a good way. But you do seem to be its main supporter. You got stock huh...
Question: what's the difference between a app and widget?
An app is like a program. You open it, use it, and close it. A widget stays constantly open on your "desktop" and streams live updates like the weather channel widget, facebook, etc.
Well, I work in IT, so me being passionate about tech is not necessarily a bad thing for my career.
I just love the phone. I think it's phenomenal. It's basically alleviated my need of purchasing a new laptop in the near future, so I'm going to save up for a better system for gaming. The screen is just large enough to make web-browsing not feel incredibly cramped.
Really though, I wouldn't mind the phone having even a 5 inch screen. That might be a little large in the pockets, though. But 4.3" to me is pretty damn nice.
there are reports of more than a few evo customers experiencing bezel separation and light bleeding from the LCD on the bottom corners of the evo.
The Evo would fit into any pair of pants I have too. The problem is, I do a lot of walking, lifting, pulling and pushing at my job. Therefore, the bigger the phone, the more noticeable it becomes. I have a Sony Ericsson Walkman phone that's small enough to fit into the condom pocket in my jeans. It's the perfect size for work, but doesn't possess some of the tools I need. I use it every now and then on my busier days at work.
The Evo would just get in my way and I'd be too afraid of breaking it to actually take it to work. The iPhone is just a bit smaller, small enough for me to not notice it a good amount of the time.
The reason I know this to be true is because the phone I use is 95% of the time is similar in size to the iPhone and I don't have too many problems with it. I compared my friends Evo to it, and the size difference is enough to be a problem for me.
I guess it depends what you do at your job too that can make the difference. If you have an office job where you sit a majority of the time, then I can see how it wouldn't be a problem. But if you're working a job that calls for a lot of walking and moving, the more you have in your pockets, the bigger the distraction.
That's what she said.
But those are fair points. As I've stated repeatedly, I recommended my g/f buy an iPhone because she thought the Evo was a little large for her.
That's not what she told me last night.
Sorry, couldn't help myself.
Did evo buy your farm or something, cause unlike CH your the main hater![]()
That was kinda funny...
How descriptive.
Or it might be that a certain tech blog realizes it can get lots of hits if it publishes something that seems to be a serious problem with a hot new phone. Hmmmmm.
I think Giz is firmly in the Android camp these days, since their banishment, but

I could fit a bottle of rubbing alcohol in my jeans, doesn't mean I want to walk around with it all day.
I actually heard about this on slashdot...
Question about the Dolphin Browser HD:
Does it not snap-to-fit the screen when you zoom in and out on webpages like the stock browser does?
I don't know if I wasn't doing it right but if it doesn't do that like the stock browser does than I don't really care for the app too much.
Anyone else notice this or is it a setting that I can toggle on and off?
I believe I heard about this and the ungrounded touch screen tracking issues on Engadget.
There are quite a few sites running the story. I saw it on Engadget too.
I guess I'm eating my own crow today.
My Evo has a very slight issue with the bottom of the screen raising up. But it's not getting worse from what I can tell, and is barely, and I mean barely noticeable.
If it worsens, I'll be contacting Sprint or Best Buy to get it fixed.
Fortunately, HTC made the Evo with a replacable screen, so it shouldn't be too big of an issue. Heck, it might just need to be re-adhesived.
Still no serious complaints about this phone, though obviously I'll be less than thrilled if repairs are needed. But as of now, it rocks!
Quick tip: STOP using Advanced Task Killer. It puts an enormous drain on your battery.
Aight, went ahead and deleted it. I didn't really know what to do w/ it anyways.
It forces programs to close so they don't remain open.
But it seems that Android's processor and program management makes it completely unnecessary, most of the time.
I noticed that there isnt a way to close the app unless you kill it with its own function, lol!. I have not noticed a drain, although I can see it doing this if left running
You don't have to eat crow, everyone else s up when they make things, especially at first, think Xbox 360 for example.
Hopefully everything falls under warranty and you won't have to be without your baby for long.
What I don't get is why everyone keeps saying the screen is replaceable, isn't every screen on every phone ever made replaceable?
Also, I thought the task killer helped battery life because you were able to kill tasks that were draining the battery?
There are levels of replaceability. As far as I know, the screen in the iPhones have literally been enclosed in the casing. Pulling it off means jerking the guts of the phone out.
From what I read, the Evo's screen is independent of the internal components and may even be user-swappable.
Well, it does to a point. But it also chugs the processor to force close so many apps, as many of them are set to just cache in the background -- where they don't use much battery or processor. I was using it far too judiciously, and all the forcing closed of programs which would later reopen were really destroying my battery life, not to mention leaving it open meant it was essentially like having a task manager left open on a phone that constantly monitors everything. Now if I use it, I let it kill itself as well. Also, I thought the task killer helped battery life because you were able to kill tasks that were draining the battery?
With moderate usage today, it's been unplugged for 7 hours exactly now, and I still have 68% battery. I'm fairly certain I could go for 24+ hours without recharging, even with moderate use. Pretty awesome. Disabling most of my live updates helped as well. The battery life went from "OK" to "excellent" in literally one day.
