I'll have to use the same analogy I've used before: It's like having a Lamborghini and living in a city where every road is only 50 feet long. Doesn't matter how fast your car is if there isn't enough road to actually go fast.

Doesn't matter how fast Verizons 4G service is if I can't use it to do anything without going over some arbitrary limit.

It's too bad, this type of limitation will stiffle innovation and lead to reduced quality video and audio services. Instead of being able to stream that game in the best quality your phones screen can support, or streaming high quality music, or video calling, you'll be watching blocky vidoes, hollow sounding music, and no video calling.

It's unfortunate that the technology is there to do such amazing things, but other things are keeping it from happening.

It's one of those tricky things too that once one company does it all of the others feel more comfortable doing it as well, hopefully someone will be smart enough not to and be the alternative for the people that don't want to put up with such bull .

Ideally, yes. But AT&T was just the first. Sprint and T-Mobile probably will within a year or two as well.

Hey guys I'm enjoying my Evo a lot, I'm watching Netflix via the hotspot that the evo comes with. The thing is that I didn't ask to for the service. Just wondering if its a free trial. I really like the feature but I heard you could tether the evo to get the hotspot free. can any one help me i don't want to pay 30 bucks. i already looked at my bill and my account and the hotspot service not included.

The hotspot service is free until later this year, as far as I know.

After having this phone for 17 days, I have used:

    Sprint Data
    2,651,684KB/ Unlimited

2.6 Gigs worth of data. Oops. Already over that stupid AT&T cap. At this rate my phone plan with AT&T would cost me $110-120 a month, as opposed to the $80 I'm paying with Sprint.

    The best part?

ZERO dropped calls thus far. Not a single one.

But much much slower, and with only a pretty screen to show for it.

Difficult to do when one moves across the country and is no longer on any kind of contract. I was on a GoPhone for 3-4 months before the Evo came out.

This phone is ridiculous. I'm loving it. I am using swype to type this and its pretty cool. The only thing that bugs me about this phone is the battery life. The screen is far better than the iphone and android isn't that bad. I would say this phone is equal to the iphone if not better. But of course fan boys would never admit that.

Sorry, but the only fanboys I see are the Evo ones trying to convince everyone that it's better than the iPhone. Here's a tip, no one really cares. I have AT&T so guess which phone I'm getting.

If you have Sprint, get the Evo. The decision is really that simple. But since the iPhone is king in the cool phone department, everyone has to take their shots.

Just ask Budweiser and Coca Cola.

And BTW, the Evo may have a bigger screen, but the iPhone has the best screen resolution of any phone on the market today. Just saying.

I'm not trying to convince you to buy a thing. I'm just excited that sprint finally got a decent phone that just happens to be on par with the iphone, and imho better. I just find it amusing that there are some apple fan boys that refuse to believe that there may be something better. Not necessarily on these boards, just in general.

Again, the only fanboys I see are the Evo people. Apple makes great products. Anyone into gadgets knows that. But the Evo people seem to have an inferiority complex and appear to be intent on beating you over the head with "The Evo is better" arguments over and over.

We get it, you like the phone. What does this have to do with the iPhone? Whether the Evo people like it or not, the iPhone is going to draw lines again, like always, because people like having the new ones when they come out.

Like Coca Cola and Budweiser, when you're the best, everyone wants to take their shots at you. That's how you know you're #1 and the iPhone is still the coolest phone on the market.

People don't compare to Blackberries even though Blackberry is still the #! smartphone on the market. No, everyone wants to be the iPhone "killer".

BTW, I find it a bit disturbing that so many guys rave about the big screen on the Evo. You know, bigger isn't always better. Plus, I detect a little "phone" compensation when talking about the big screen. Just saying.

Really? LOL you are going to use Budweiser (or InBev) for comparison to apple. Even I don't have that much disdain for the apple culture. Oh and notice I say culture because I think that they have some great products for the people in their market, some of these products may be useless, but they are at least geared well toward their niche. I won't elaborate on that niche, because it will sound demeaning when I don't mean to.

It is the culture surrounding everything apple (up to and including steve jobs), that causes the backlash, not the perceived "king" status.

What the are you talking about?

So let me guess: You watch TV on a 13 inch screen in your living room, right?

You're still using this for your home PC, right?

And I'll bet the first time you got an iPod Video/iPod Touch, you said, "Wow, this is great... if only they can make the screen smaller, it would be so much better!"

Your argument is equally hilarious because when the iPhone was released, it had the largest display available in the American market. Were you banging the "compensation" drum then, too?

Bigger might not be always better, but in the case of the Evo, it is. It's got a higher resolution than any of the previous iPhones, it has a fantastic touchscreen with haptic feedback, great colors, and is massively bright. There's a reason magazines have raved about the ability to watch movies on it enjoyably. If big screens weren't nice to have, you wouldn't see plasma/LED TVs, you wouldn't see the Nintendo DS consistently getting remade with a larger screen, etc.

But no, the MOST hilarious thing about your comment is the "phone" portion. Because the "phone" aspect of the iPhone has been the part that it has most been criticized for, since apparently the iPhone did everything well except... you know... actually making calls. I have a friend in NYC who still has trouble making calls with the iPhone in the middle of the day. I loved my iPhone when I had it, but it dropped about 30% of the calls I made with it. I'll post to this thread when my Evo drops a call without a sufficient reason (i.e., going into the DC subway).

Again, the only fanboys I see are the Evo people. Apple makes great products. Anyone into gadgets knows that. But the Evo people seem to have an inferiority complex and appear to be intent on beating you over the head with "The Evo is better" arguments over and over.
Yes. We're beating you over the head with it. That's why you're wandering into a thread ABOUT THE EVO, right? This is pretty much the only thread about the phone on the site, other than the "Cell Phone Recommendation" thread in The Club a couple weeks ago. Why do you click on a thread about a phone and then start whining when people are... gasp... talking about that phone and comparing it to other phones in the thread?

We get it, you like the phone. What does this have to do with the iPhone? Whether the Evo people like it or not, the iPhone is going to draw lines again, like always, because people like having the new ones when they come out.
You're in the Evo thread. Go away if you'd prefer to talk about the iPhone. There's even a thread below this one for it.

Like Coca Cola and Budweiser, when you're the best, everyone wants to take their shots at you. That's how you know you're #1 and the iPhone is still the coolest phone on the market.

That's the most ignorant statement you could possibly make. Coca Cola and Budweiser depend on their name brand to carry them. Budweiser is beer. As anyone who knows a little about the brewing process. They'll tell you how horrific Bud is. Do you realize that they don't even use real hops when they make that beer? They just squirt a chemically altered hop-type substance into the brewer to create it.

Of course, it makes sense that you equate sales with quality. Because the mass public are educated consumers, and know what is the best to buy, right? Gillette Razors, Bose headphones, HP computers, the Nintendo Wii, and Coke. Coca Cola is definitely the best soda on the planet.

No. Hop extract is made from hops. There is no chemical altering - the hop oil, alpha and beta acids are separated from the rest of the matter and put into the brew kettle. In the last few years, even craft brewers have been using this in addition to merely adding hops to the brew kettle. It can add a ridiculous amount of bitterness and hop flavor while reducing the need to filter. It was once looked down upon, but it has been turned on its head in recent years. Even though Budweiser is a watered down version of what it once was, craft brewing still couldn't survive without them. Them being the largest buyer of hops in the world on contract allows hop growers to purchase extra space and make selling lesser used varietals to craft brewers possible. The thing that makes Bud and the like lighter in body is the use of rice in the mash.
