Swiss players flop too, all the players flop, it's already a cultural thing. If you don't flop you aren't doing all you can to help your team win, it may be sad but it's the way it is.

There are different levels of flopping. That move by the Chilean player was disgraceful. He got nudged in the face and looked like someone stepped on his mouth with cleats on.

If you go down in that much "pain", you should be out of the game for a mandatory 10-15 minutes.

There should be a review committee set up to look at each game. If a player over-exaggerates an injury (i.e., rolls around on the ground, getting carted off only to appear in action a few minutes later, or falls over in severe pain only to spring up after the ref cards someone), it should be an automatic one game suspension. This would encourage players to play through and not fall down even if they thought they were truly hit by another player.

If a player fakes being hit, as we saw yesterday with the Ivory Coast, it's an automatic two-game + probation, where the player will be suspended for the rest of the compe ion if he is found guilty of doing it again.

It's sad, if you watched the men's and women's World Cup right now, you would undeniably conclude that the women would be able to beat the out of the men in a brawl.
well its a little more complicated than that. Some hits hurt like a mother er for a few seconds then just go away. I've had that happen to me. Ofcourse there are some intances that complete bull and are too obvious. Something needs to be done, but within reason. You can't just start giving out suspensions be done with it.

I don't ever see that happening. You could also argue that a player that is legitimately fouled may not get the call if he doesn't flop. FIFA heads don't like interfering with game play. There have been far worse Flops that have happened in the world cup and FIFA has done nothing to punish the player. On a side note, there have also been goals have been given even though the ball didn't cross the line but FIFA stayed mute.

The most likely and only scenario that FIFA will ever consider is to put one or more refs on the pitch.

Something has to be done. There needs to be a very stern hand set out for players who flop. It's ridiculous. Set the punishment as severe enough that it's not worth it to even try flopping, because right now there is almost no penalty for rolling around on the ground like a 5 year old.

I'm saying in some cases its hard to tell when a player is actually hurt and when one is merely exaggerating. In SOME cases. Obviously, there are other times when its blatantly ridiculous, and there are no doubts that the player was flopping. All I'm saying is you have to be very careful you don't penalize someone that was geniunely hurting. Some hits are not crippling but hurt like a mother er.

Goal, Chile needs to score one or two more times to almost secure his spot in the next round.

This is why Americans tend to believe soccer players are "soft." I know exactly what you're talking about with the hits that hurt like , but to be fair I've been hit even harder playing gridiron football and you're expected to get back up unless you're too hurt to continue. If it's a stinger, you're supposed to walk it off, not roll around on the ground.

Like you said, tho--it's a cultural difference at the end of the day.

Do you know how much does a simple hit on the legs hurt? a hit on the upperbody with pads and protection doesn't compare to a leg on leg clash, specially at professional speed.

Like I said, I've played both sports a LOT--just because you're wearing more pads in American football means little--you can get clipped on the legs just as hard in football btw--and of all the pads they wear, shinguards aren't one of them.

Good win by Chile. That should put them through the second round.

Now we just need to see if Spain will pull another choke job (doubt it)

Good win for Chile but they can't be too happy with the lone goal difference, now they will need to not lose against Spain to not be eliminated. Crazy that in this group a team will probably be out with six points and Italy can qualify with just three.

that soft argument has always been bull . Soccer is played at the feet and is very high paced. The majority of the football players get hit at chest level. It's a lot different when you are hit leg level. Football players may have it ingrained in their head to play through injury but I don't care who you are, you're not getting up from a nasty challenge. I do agree that there are certain cases where players are over dramatic.....there are so many rules regarding contact in the NFL that simulation can't exist. Otherwise, I think it would. Sorry but that perception angers me for players that run about 5 miles a game while sorting through tactics on the field to be considered soft. I just recently tore my ACL playing soccer without even being touched and I was told to get the up....WTF?

Moreso than that - American Football is by definition a contact sport. Going down in a heap pretending you got hurt serves no purpose since you are SUPPOSED to get hit, it's not a foul, it's the entire point of the game!

Soccer players play through lots of pain and are tough as nails, but they cry like babies in ways that only NBA players can come close to rivaling. My favorite thing to laugh at is the magic spray. I love how a player can act like his leg needs to be amputated because he's in so much pain, but a little spray and he's good to go 100% again. It's just laughable. The Ivory Coast guy from yesterday was classic comedy as well.

Depends on the type of player you are but I agree. Some older generation players cringe at having to watch all the simulation these days. I admire players that don't flop but some of the I've seen from simulation has been hilarious.
