Speedy came up huge in the 4th quarter in Game 6 of the 2003 NBA Finals. Wish the Spurs would've held on to him a little longer, but it's a business. Best of luck in his life after basketball!

Arguably the best backup PG that Parker ever had.

When it counted, game 6 2003 finals, Speedy played big. Nate went back to being Nate in games 6 and 7.

When do we retire his number?
In 2015, in an effort to boost attendance, I'm sure they'll have a series of special SpursTalk.com Nights to retire the numbers of James White, James Gist, and Speedy Claxton.

"Wish the Spurs would've held on to him a little longer"

Speedy knew he wouldn't ever start for the Spurs, and he wanted to start, his head inflated by a few good minutes, and a ring, after Tony carried the PG position pretty much by himself all season was so good against the Nets there was talk of Tony as Finals MVP, so Speedy left. Speedy never was and never did come anywhere close to Tony's contribution.

Leaving was Speedy's choice. He was a Spur one year and won a le. He could have had a nice (and lucrative) career if he had stayed with the Spurs. But he was a city kid and he wanted to start and he was going places and . . .

To quote Paul McCartney's line in "Too Many People" -- "That was your first mistake. You took your lucky break and threw it away."
