Claxton Retires, Hired As Scout By Golden State

Longtime NBA guard Speedy Claxton has retired.

Claxton, a veteran of seven seasons, spent time with the 76ers, Spurs, Warriors, Hornets and Hawks.

The Warriors have hired him as a college scout.

Speedy came up huge in the 4th quarter in Game 6 of the 2003 NBA Finals. Wish the Spurs would've held on to him a little longer, but it's a business. Best of luck in his life after basketball!

Speedy knew he wouldn't ever start for the Spurs, and he wanted to start, his head inflated by a few good minutes, and a ring, after Tony carried the PG position pretty much by himself all season was so good against the Nets there was talk of Tony as Finals MVP, so Speedy left. Speedy never was and never did come anywhere close to Tony's contribution.

Leaving was Speedy's choice. He was a Spur one year and won a le. He could have had a nice (and lucrative) career if he had stayed with the Spurs. But he was a city kid and he wanted to start and he was going places and . . .
