Peyton breaks all of Favre's bull records faster.
What do you think about the league wanting to expand to an 18-game schedule?
Records broken wont mean as much. A playing playing in a 18 game schedule would probably have about twice as many season to break records now. And single season records will be broken regularly.
The proposal is that they would turn 2 of the current 4 preseason games into true regular season games.
Tom Brady and Ray Lewis have already said they don't like it because of the wear and tear on the players. A player right now has to play 3 years in order to get 5 years of post-career health care. This would seem to knock out a bunch of players' careers early.
There's also Goodell whining about Manning sitting out a few games towards the end of the season. Seems to me that Manning could sit out even longer than this past year if it goes to 18.
I hate 4 worthless preseason games, but by December, we already know who will be in the playoffs in real and fantasy football.
In the end, I don't really care much either way, but I don't see any advantage other than the NFL just trying to make a few more bucks.
agree, tbh. 16 games is a perfect number of games to decide who's good enough to make the playoffs and which teams suck so much they manage to go 11-5 and still miss the playoffs.
That's a problem in every sport and it will always be a problem as long as there is a playoff format, no team will ever have a reason to play their franchise QB in a game that is meaningless. If he wants to include a bonus draft pick for winning X number of games then that might erase the problem but it creates a rich get richer problem. No matter what it will always be flawed.
Yeah if the NFL goes to 18 games there will be tons of 2000 yard rushers every year, Marino's single season passing yards record will go down the first year they play 18 games...
ducks has spoken
mother ing props to ducks. He's been on Spurstalk for over 7 years now and has managed to stay in character all this time, even when he starts working 80 hours/week when the Chargers go through their usual early season losing streak![]()
I don't like it because this proposal just increases the chances that there won't be a 2011 season. The league os full of greedy s, of course, who want the two extra games for more money but want the salaries to stay the same. The player of course want those two extra weeks of game checks added on if the schedule is expanded. Right now they get 17 game checks (one for the bye week too), and if a guy is making 17 mil a year that's one mil a game. The owners want that same 17 mil to be divided by 19 game weeks while the players rightfully want that 1 mil per game added to the contract for 19 mil adjusted. This 's just gonna muck things up worse.
True. Can you imagine the number of 2,000 yard runners in the next ten years?
Are there that many guys putting up 1700 to 1800 yd seasons right now? Even if they could average 100 yds over the 2 extra games that would mean they would need 1800 in the 16 to hit 2000. Too many teams are going to 2 or 3 featured back offenses so I'm thinking more passing and TD records are in jeopardy.
The Most all-time yards held by LT is going to get passed around a lot of this does happen.
18 games is lame, NFL's too much of a grind.
My Vikings are winning this anyway, 16 games, 18 games. dont matter'97 --->

a lot of season records would probably be broken for running backs, but I would think it would increase Emmitt's chances of holding his career records.
