mafioso
seriously, who the is this guy?
I hear his name all the time when associated with superstars, high profile coaches, etc. I always think of the NBA's Scott Boras but he's not an agent.
Who is he? What does he do?
mafioso
My understanding is that he's some sort of mentor/Winston Wolf type.
Everytime they mention him on ESPN they just say that somebody is "associated" with him and that it makes a big difference with contracts and stuff. I just don't understand why he is so special?
I'd refer to him as The Basketball Anti-Christ but David Stern already has that le.
Because the players listen to and respect him for some reason.
Smooth Criminal with the goods:

Moves in elite circles, helps out players, has a ton of influence
He's basically an Allen Iverson groupie that kissed enough ass that suddenly everbody started to like him. Probably the most appropriate description is that he's a leech with street cred.
Why the Anti-Christ? Or did you just use him to bash the Commish?
Middle man type of guy. Drug peddlers also have middlemen to do and get deals done. Ya, that type of guy. Think he gets some commission too.
Nobody with basically zero experience, credentials, or purpose in the basketball world should have this much influence.
For him to basically be running the entire LeBron sweepstakes is ing ridiculous.
It says a lot about LeBron that he would listen to a chode like WWW.
tbh my hatred of World Wide Wes really makes me hate LeBron for falling for his bull . I'm glad the Mavs basically have no shot at LeBron, and I'll probably be rooting against him for his entire career because of this.
Everybody knows a Worldwide Wes type, at least I know a few of them..not with his power, obviously, but there are these types of guys that make it big strictly based on personality and a plan..
Street guys that make it their job to be nice to EVERYBODY and make friends with everybody get a lot of influence after a while..in this circle, you're talking about a guy that is doing this with a bunch of NBA players and rappers, which is pretty much the ideal target..
He becomes close with some players, his reputation starts growing, he meets other people through them, his name starts floating around, he's extremely likable, and it all leads to power and influence..if you're likable, pay attention to everybody, do favors and be a good friend to everybody, and you have the patience to put up with all of this, it all adds up..
Basically the popular guy that everybody likes..everybody probably knows a few guys like this, except this guy is doing it with multi-millionaires in the basketball world..
So basically he's Paris Hilton and LeBron's signing day will be his night vision sex tape?
The biggest difference to me between Kobe and LeBron is that while the former wants to be popular, is concerned with his public image and has the endorsement deals to prove it, basketball ALWAYS comes first...whereas the latter values style over substance too much. LeBron talks about being a "global icon" and "transcending the sport" whereas Kobe is mainly concerned with racking up chips and trying to tie/pass Jordan.
Calling him a socialite isn't really that far off..pretty much that + being extremely nice + power that was gained from associating with big names..
He's pretty much only going to get bigger now that he's associated himself with Lebron and this 2010 ..
You have to admire a guy that has basically no credentials, yet has somehow made it this far, simply based on personality..
I can guarantee you that guy has sucked a somewhere along the way up.
meh, if that's what he wants to do to get ahead, that's on him..
I bet he has cleaned up many shady incidents for NBA players though..
haha that too. I'm sure he's dumped a dead hooker's body or two into a lake along the way up as well.
I'm more than happy to take on those responsibilities if it will get LeBron to Dallas.
Damn, HarlemHeat is ready to go back to being a die hard Knicks fan once they get Lebron.
why?..
Because for someone who isn't a Knicks fan you pitch a tent at the thought of Lebron signing in NY.
Back to the subject - World Wide Wes is a stupid cuckold who can suck a . It's no surprise he's connected to John "I'm a dip " Calipari. I can't decide which team I would root against more intensely, a team w/ Lebron and D'antoni as coach, or a team w/ Lebron and Calipari as coach.
He basically snookered Bill Simmons and one of his toadies in as well because he tells good "go to bed early instead of stay up late anecdotes":
So it’s 2:45 in the morning on Friday night. All the Dallas bars and parties have either closed down or stopped letting people in. I’m standing on Main Street with a bunch of people, including Worldwide Wes, the renowned NBA power broker who’s really a cross between Confucius, a benevolent uncle and The Wolf in “Pulp Fiction” to assorted NBA superstars and up-and-coming stars. Known as “Uncle Wes” to the players, he carries more weight within the league than basically anybody. Because he keeps such a low profile, I could never figure out why. Which is why I went out of my way to spend some time with him on Friday night.
Back to Main Street: We’re standing with a young player who wants the night to keep going. The young player pushes to find another bar even though the odds are against it. Uncle Wes makes a face. He’s squashing this right now.
“Nothing good can happen at this point,” Wes explains simply. “You can’t chase the night. When the night is over, the night is over. That’s just the way it is. You just gotta wake up tomorrow and hope for a better day.”
Uncle Wes had spoken. I am not exaggerating by saying it’s a strangely profound moment. Within 15 seconds, our group splinters in three directions to look for cabs. I find one with my friend Connor. We climb in. We look at each other.
“I will never be able to properly explain that story to anyone,” Connor said.
Agreed. You can’t chase the night. It was like hearing a human fortune cookie. I went back to my hotel, took my contacts out, crawled into bed and hoped for a better day. These are the things that happen at NBA All-Star Weekend.
