Sam Presti didn't do this because the Spurs draft at 20, he did this because he has a ton of cap space, could get a decent player and a mid first rounder. If the heat picked 21 Presti still would have done this.
It wasn't the reason for the trade, but you gotta believe Presti sees it as a cherry on top.

Presti isn't all that great at drafting big men. He might be doing the Spurs a favor.
BJ Mullens, what ... you no like!?!

The Spurs are not a threat to Presti and the Thunder. When OKC's young players hit 25 the Spurs will be rebuilding and Duncan will be retired.
It's not about a threat as much as them having a similar appreciation for players and talent. They're not trying to acquire the pick for a head-to-head compe ive advantage, it's about getting their hands on a player they'd like to have in their program -- one a team right in front of them probably feels the same way about.

The Spurs are absolutely a threat to the Thunder making the playoffs next year. Unless you think the West won't be as tight as it has been in the past few years.

Thunder pick up Cook and potentially a lottery pick with their 21st and 32nd pick. I wish Presti were still here.

well cook is pretty useless but his salary is low. that's a good move for the thunder, especially if they acquire the 10th pick.

I would have too a few months ago,but he is not as athletic as I thought he was when he was at WV and he would need about 2 years to make any kind of contribution on an nba team. There are better players the Spurs can get with the #20 pick than Ebanks.

I agree. I don't think they can't win a championship with him at the four. I see him as either a starting three or a sixth man who plays both spots off the bench, a la Odom. Obviously, with the Thunder, he can't be their starting three.

Also, he's going to want to be paid as a third star and I don't see him as being worth, say, 5 years and $40-50 million, which he'll likely command.

If I'm the Thunder, I offer Green and some combination of their picks to the Kings for the fifth pick. At five, they could take Cousins and potentially have their cornerstone big man that they're missing. Add him to Durant and Westbrook and talent-wise, at least, that's a big three that should be championship caliber.

We were about 20 million over the cap (i.e., no cap room to send to Miami).

Green would make a perfect sixth man. Absolutely perfect. I couldn't think of a more perfect fit for him.

Green didn't improve at all this year, he actually got worse..his efficiency went down, his points went down, his rebounding went down..I don't mind him as a 6th man, but he's a stretch four that can't shoot consistently and doesn't play enough defense..

    I don't see his appeal..

Like TD said, he's going to ask for more money than what a 6th man should make, and I'm sure some stupid team will throw money at him..OKC's main flaw as a team is their presence in the paint..I like Ibaka, but they need a significant upgrade over Green..

    Unlikely to happen now...

NBA sources tell Y! possible OKC-Indy trade was talked about but doubtful. "Indy going down line looking for a young guard," one source says

    Are you in' kidding me?

The heat are getting robbed!! Why the couldn't R.C pull the damn trigger for one time in his life outside his horrible trade for R.J??? 32 for 18 and Cook???

Spurs could have Cook and the 18th (Possibly Cousins due to his work ethic)...

    Unbelievable..

Well, for starters, we don't have the cap space to do this deal. Also, our 2nd round pick is 49th, which is obviously much worse than Thunder's 32nd.

Oh and the 18th pick in this draft is just as useless as the 20th, which is why so many tems in that range, possibly Spurs too, want to get rid.

As a side note, Cook was the one player outside the lottery the Spurs had rated over Splitter in that draft. The Spurs would have taken Cook over Splitter.

I'm guessing Presti had at least some part of scouting Cook.

I liked Cook coming out of school, but he really hasn't done much with his time in the NBA. His career 37 FG% is nauseating. OKC is deep at guard and doesn't need much scoring with Durant in the mix, so he could find himself on the street in a year or two.
