Chief,
As I've been working on my writeup, I was wondering: Do you want us to send you a sort-of wish list of Free Agents? Or are we just waiting until Free Agency opens and then sending in our offers individually?
This is just an idea.
But as far as free agents go, you think that someone (I figure Chieflion is doing a lot already) who isn't participating in the game as a GM wouldn't mind as acting as the "sports agent" for free agent players and he/she takes offers and does the negotiations for the free agents? Maybe even just open a new account (hopefully Kori would immediately approve) for that sole purpose.
I figure this does a couple of things. It condenses all free agent negotiations to one source/one account to make it a pretty organized way of doing it. It also helps keep these negotiations somewhat secret. So GMs don't know who is negotiation with which players and what kinds of offers they're talking about. It can also make for interesting dynamics in free agency.
For example, say hypothetically with everyone worried about the LeBrons and Wades and Amares in free agency, I target a guy like David Lee. I PM the "sports agent" with a simple offer of the MLE and no one knows about it. David Lee is forgotten by everyone else and that's the only offer. If he gets tired of waiting for other offers, maybe at some point he accepts it. I figure that way a GM who strikes out with Amare and Bosh and has to go to secondary options would then go to guys like David Lee. But if I already wrapped up a negotiation to sign him, they might be too late. I think it adds a little more strategy to free agency. David Lee might not be a great example because there should be several GMs that at least try to start talks with him, but maybe some lesser known players might be acquired at bargain deals.
There are a couple of guys I'd be targeting (I only have the MLE and LLE at my disposal) who I think most GMs aren't even going to think about. But if open negotiations out in the open, maybe another GM says, "hey, I forgot about that player, I'd like to negotiate with him too."
I don't know how free agency was going to go down, but that's just an idea I'm throwing out there.
Chief,

I venture to say that the free agent guru will not allow a lesser free agent sign early because in real life they will be waiting for the big names to get done so that the teams that do not get them can offer more money to them.
great idea. I would also limit the time for the agent to decide. (if we do it over the whole summer, this game will lose a lot of interest). what about 1 week?
Chieflion - OKC will be waiving Kyle Weaver as his contract becomes guaranteed after June 30.
Okay.
Yep. To all teams, this is an announcement. If you want to exercise your team options and extend qualifying offers for your restricted free agents, please submit them by June 30th. Please send in your offers for free agents individually, of course, money is an issue.
Rumor mill: Portland Trail Blazers look to add veteran PG to the roster
The Portland Trail Blazers look talented on paper, but they lack a back-up PG. Sources have been leaked out that the Blazers look to add one through free agency using their Mid-Level Exception. Possible targets are Jannero Pargo and Chris Duhon.
Blockbuster trade agreed in principle, to be completed by July 1st.
Top flight PG, Chris Paul would be playing in a new uniform once Joel Pryzbilla does not exercise his Early-Termination Option, this deal would be broken if Pryzbilla opts out. The Portland Trail Blazers would acquire Chris Paul, David West and Julian Wright for LaMarcus Aldridge, Joel Przybilla, Andre Miller, Rudy Fernandez, Dante Cunningham, 22nd pick draft rights and cash considerations.
Joe Johnson favors Hawks, Bulls, Knicks and Clippers.
Joe Johnson is one of the few premiere NBA free agents in 2010 and has narrowed down his choices to the Hawks, Bulls, Knicks and Clippers. He wants to be a main piece to one of these teams' puzzle. If he does want to get out of Atlanta, he wishes to seek a S&T to get the extra contract year and raises each year.

As has been mentioned before, the Raptors are willing to listen to sign and trade offers for Chris Bosh. Wherever Bosh says he wants to go, something can probably be worked out.
In addition to putting teams over the cap in the hunt for Bosh, this can also work out for teams under the cap, as they can sign free agents with their cap space, then use existing contracts to get Bosh. However, if this is a road you want to go down, you may want to talk with the Raptors GM (me) once Bosh tells you he's truly interested, so that we can be sure that we can come to an agreement.
Mike D'Antoni released a statement today regarding Joe Johnson.
" me hard, Chicago can have Joe Johnson, give us LeBron."
D'Antoni then got on his knees and begged LeBron to sign with New York, he couldn't be reached for further comment
Report: Yao Ming opts in, Dirk Nowitzki opts out.
2 premiere big men in the Texas Triangle made 2 different decisions going into next season. Yao Ming, with his injury concerns uncertain, opts in while Dirk Nowitzki opts out. Nowitzki hopes to re-construct his contract with the Dallas Mavericks, hoping that the team would still try to contend for a championship.
Report: Richard Jefferson decides not to exercise his ETO.
After a poor season in San Antonio, Richard Jefferson decides to opt in for his final year on his contract.
Paul Pierce decides to opt out, hopes for long term contract.

OKC is contacting Marcus Banks' agent about a possible buyout on the final year of his contract and has renounced the rights to Mustafa Shakur making him an unrestricted free agent.
Minnesota renounces rights to Nathan Jawai and Greg Stiemsma, making them free agents.

The painfully obvious
All 3 of LeBron James, Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh opt out of their contracts. The 2-time MVP, LeBron James left the Eastern Conference Semi-Finals searching for answers. After a thrilling 7 years, surpassing his hype, LeBron James is going to make the biggest decision of his career as the biggest prize of the 2010 free agency class, the most stacked ever. He wants to win now and he has the choice to decide his legacy.
Dwyane Wade has also opted out, but he expressed his desire to stay in Miami, on the basis that he gets a championship caliber roster behind him. At age 29, Wade's career is at a crossroads, he has one championship and looks to add more to his hardware. Dwyane Wade has not made it out of the first round since 2006.
Chris Bosh opted out as well, expressing that he wants to win, and wants to be a main piece to winning a championship. After a disappointing season for the Raptors, Bosh has all but expressed his desire to leave the city of Toronto for greener pastures, a bigger stage, a chance to play in the post-season, a chance to advance. Chris Bosh became the only Raptor to reach the 10,000 point plateau and surpassed Vince Carter for the franchise scoring leader this past season. Last but not least, enjoy this mix of Chris Bosh, although the mix is quite a little upsetting as we watch the last highlights as we watch Bosh's most possibly, his last season in Toronto.

Anybody got a full list of free agents this year?
I think you can find the full list of free agents on NBA's official webpage on July 1st or you can go to shamsports.
Ah nevermind, http://www.nba.com/freeagents/2010/
How many Max contracts can I offer? I'm still reading up on this whole cap stuff.
I think you can sign one max player with the projected cap space you have. Can you send me your roster and the breakdown of the team salary?
Announcement: Players only make your roster if they are eligible to make a roster, no stashed players like Tiago Splitter until they are ready to come over.
How do I know when they are "ready to come over"? Do I just offer a contract and you'll make the press release?
Did Peja opt in? Did Darius Songaila opt in?
I'm assuming yes for both, but want verification.
Yep. ESPN Free Agents list takes care of all that.

Well, at least I'm guaranteed one All-Star.
...barring injuries.![]()
Oklahoma City's Russell Westbrook and Kevin Durant show up at the home of John Salmon to recruit his services.
