That's one of my favorite little bits of trivia.
Since the inception of the draft lottery only two overall #1 picks have won a championship with the team that drafted them---Robinson and Duncan.
Yup. As things stand, Spurs still have a glaring need at the SF position. No depth and their best SF is a bad fit.
I want them to move RJ as well as find a little more depth there.

so who are recognized names that were undrafted?
Samuels?
Zoubek?
Samhan?
Parakhouski?
does our team qualify to sign undrafted rooks?
Wow, that's crazy. Nice to be on the winning side of that.![]()
They're all free agents now. Any team can sign them.
Scottie Reynolds was undrafted also

Dominique Jones says he compares himself to DWade due to ability to get in transition, drive, score. "Basically being unguardable," he said. 2 minutes ago via Twitter for iPhone
Magnum is a pretty boss first name.
Wow I called Magnum going to OKC back in January. I never thought I'd be right about that pick.![]()
lol reminding Mav fans of D-Wade is probably not the best idea.
The FO must have overlooked the John Wall clone available at the 49th.
It's just a hunch, but I'm guessing Hairston will be the primary backup SF. Anderson and Ginobili will also see some time at SF and Gee, while I think he'll primarily be with the Toros, is also another player available for depth purposes.
Does it even make that much sense to sign a veteran at this point? They've got their shooter/third wing in Anderson, which was the primary backup wing need. If they sign a veteran, they'd only further (and probably unnecessarily) bury Hairston and Gee. They paid a lot for Gee to pry him away from the Wizards and Hairston they've liked for two years.
Does it make a ton of sense to bury them behind, say, Jones (James), when his primary role on this team could be filled by Anderson (three-point shooting) and Hairston (defense)? They've talked about needing to get younger and more athletic and they have. I'd be surprised if they bring in a minimal veteran SF/wing, at least on a guaranteed contract.
Maybe just read? They liked Anderson too, but Jones a little bit more.
Makes sense since both are very different players and Jones is the better fit for the Mavs and Anderson for the Spurs.
Anderson was higher than Jones on the Spurs list and Jones over Anderson for the Mavs.
RC just explained why they went for Jones and not Anderson. Because they liked him more and its the BETTER FIT, not because Anderson went to the Spurs.
Holy crap I didn't know that either. I still remember the exact moment in time when I heard we got the number 1. But I forget, what team was all pissed they didn't get it? Boston right?
Correct.![]()
It kept throwing me off because I only remember Van Horn as a 76er early on.
This.
This.
THIS.
So, considering our draft picks, current contracts and plausible re-signed players, we could have :
1th five : Parker (Pg) - Hill (G) - Jefferson (F) - Duncan (PF) - Splitter (C)
2nd five : Ginobili (Pg-G-f) - J. Anderson (G) - Gee (F)- Blair (PF) - Mc Dyess (PF/C)
3 five : Temple (Pg-G) - x x Richards (PF) - Mahinmi (Bonner)
Still areas of need : back up PG (maybe)
Shooting three (maybe again)
Long defensive three who can hit the three (for sure)
:lobt2I think temple will play more than gee.
