The Draft is about to begin, and then free agency will shortly follow, within a weeks time. The trade scenarios are heating for some players this past few weeks, but none more than the Hornets All-Star point guard Chris Paul.

The ream scenario, is Chris Paul heads to the Orlando Magic in a blockbuster trade that will benefit both teams dramatically.

The blockbuster deal includes: The Orlando Magic will send up and coming point guard Jameer Nelson, scoring machine Vince Carter, defensive specialists Mickael Pietrus, and Matt Barnes to the New Orleans Hornets. The New Orleans Hornets will send perennial point guard, Chris Paul, three-point shooter Peja Stojokovic, and defensive specialist James Posey.

The Case for the New Orleans Hornets

If, and only the Hornets are to trade their franchise player, the Magic will have the best weapons to offer. By adding Jameer Nelson, it gives you flexibility between Nelson, Collison, and Marcus Thornton. This trade allows Collison to be your guy.

Gaining Carter will add you scoring, veteran leadership, and a player to count on in the clutch. Besides, if he does not go well, his $19,000,000 is off the books come next summer, and allow the Hornets to cash in on next year's great free agency class.

The defensive specialists in Barnes and Pietrus will do exactly what they are there to do, play defense. They will help the defense-less Hornets, and hit a lot of threes in the process.

The Case for the Orlando Magic

Here is a trade that can potentially put the Magic over the top come next year. Adding Chris Paul, paring him alongside Dwight Howard, is too much to handle. We all saw what happened when Chris Paul and Tyson Chandler were together.

If Peja is able to somehow bring back the old Peja and hit a trillion threes a game, then he could flourish in the Magic's shoot a billion threes a game, besides he only has one year left in his contract, you might as well use him and his three point shooting abilities.

Lastly, adding Posey will help replace the loss of defensive specialist Barnes and Pietrus. Posey is a very good three point shooter, and will help in the offense as well.

    The Verdict

This trade in the end, will benefit both teams. If the Hornets are wanting to rebuild, then they trade their franchise player. The the Magic have the best options for that trade to occur.

They offer a young stretch scoring point guard, a shooting guard who can still score and will give you tonnes of short-term scoring, even if you kick him to the curb come next summer. And then you have two defensive specialists to add to your team.

The Magic will get the player that puts them over the top in, Chris Paul, a player that best fits your system, not named Kyle Korver, in Peja Stojokovic. And you get a defensive specialist who also best fits your offensive tactics.

If Darren Collison plays like he did when he was a starter then this trade is good for both teams.

no its only good for Orlando ... Collison did nothing but put up nice stats for a rookie, but hurt the team. When Paul got hurt the Hornets were winning and in the 7th seed spot. Then Collison took over the PG position and led the team to a ridiculous record of something like 8-22. don't be fooled by Collison people

Most of these CP3 deals are turrible for New Orleans, especially since none of them involve dumping Okafor's contract (which I still don't get why New Orleans traded for it). Nawlins has a SG who they're high on and a PG who is massively overrated by people who hate CP3, but regardless the back court isn't their biggest need area.

Minnesota might have drafted a ton of point guards but they all either suck or aren't in the NBA yet, and they seem to wanna trade Jefferson. CP3 and Okafor for Jefferson, Webster and draft rights to Rubio might seem really unfair but Minnesota is loaded at SF, has love to replace Jefferson, and would be getting maybe the best PG in the NBA when healthy. That's the one realistic trade for New Orleans that isn't really stupid for them.

He started for two months, played well, and is 22 years old. Makes sense that you'd already be giving up on him.

He played well as far as personal stats go but the Hornets were 14-23 when he started. It's pretty moronic to tell someone they should be happy with 14-23 because Collison personally played well.

By that logic, Jordan's team was 38-44 his rookie year. Pretty stupid to be satisified with 38-44.

LMAO comparing Collison to Jordan ...

You can't really judge a player when he played for only a month as a starter.

I never said Thornton is bad 14.5 PPG and 117 triples for an unknown rookie is really good. Im just saying DCs numbers were impressive since yall are talking bout him.

New Orleans system lends itself to the PG putting up good numbers, when Collison gets to dominate the ball and pick and rolls, he's gonna naturally put up good numbers, but his team might suck.

To me the only thing that really makes sense for New Orleans is if Chicago offers them Rose for Paul. And the only way that happens is if Chicago is getting LeBron.

What a stupid trade that would be.

Thornton did have a better rookie season, but Collison will be a better player in the long-run. He has more skills overall than Thornton including creating his own shot off the dribble better. He will be a great 6th man this year while Thornton and CP3 start. No way that deal to Orlando is done. What's the point of bringing an expensive PG in Nelson who shoots way more than Collison and probably won't be better anyway in a season or two.

knowing how pathetic the front office is for the Hornets I wouldn't be surprised if they traded Paul just to clear salary space and get a few second round picks in return
