San Antonio Spurs
By Chris Broussard
Objective: Add a talented young player who's good -- and experienced -- enough to take their aging stars to the next level.
Assets: A trade exception worth $825,497.
The Plan: With Tim Duncan, Tony Parker, Manu Ginobili and Richard Jefferson all under contract for eight-figure salaries next season, the Spurs can't rebuild. Yet, they aren't good enough to win a le as currently constructed. With George Hill ready to take over as the starting point guard, the Spurs may have to use Parker as trade bait to improve the club. While Parker struggled with injuries this past season, at 28 years old he's still one of the league's most effective point guards when healthy. The fact that he's in the last year of a deal that will pay him $13.5 million next season will make it easier to trade him. Same goes for Jefferson, who is slated to make $15 million next season in the last year of his deal. Jefferson, however, probably won't be able to be moved until the trade deadline. With Parker available, there are all types of possibilities.
The Spurs clearly need another impact player up front. But that need could be filled by 6-foot-11 forward Tiago Splitter, the MVP of the Spanish League who finally seems poised to join the Spurs after being drafted in 2007.
Alternative Advice: Why not offer Jefferson to Memphis in a sign-and-trade for Rudy Gay? Jefferson's expiring contract may appeal to the financially struggling Grizzlies, and Gay would be a lovely fit, game-wise and personality-wise, in San Antonio. If the Spurs can couple that with a Parker-for-David Lee sign-and-trade, they could be in business.

Parker for David Lee? Ummm.... how about no. If Tiago comes, don't need him and we will stilly have our speedster.
It's Broussard, so take it with a grain of salt.
It's funny how you can hear the sound of a guy's voice when reading some of their work; not as funny as the suggested trade ... but funny nonetheless . . .
How do these guys get hired? That's a great deal for the Spurs (although BYC constraints would make it impossible without a third team, but Broussard couldn't spell BYC if you spotted him a B and a Y), but even Chris Wallace isn't dumb enough to make that deal for Memphis. If Rudy is leaving Memphis, they are much better off getting nothing in return than paying RJ 15M.
Parker for Lee would be one of the worst things to happen.
You too? I thought I was the only one.
Chris Broussard during this NBA Free Agent special just now made this argument "if LeBron leaves Cleveland he will not be considered in the same likes of Jordan, Duncan, Kobe; because they stayed on their respective teams and made it work to win championships"
agree or disagree?
If LeBron wins a le in Cleveland I think it would be more special, than if he were to win Chicago (which is where I think he is going).
Broussard is from Cleveland. He's a Cleveland fan. He's a homer.
If LeBron goes on to have the type of career those type of players had he'll be right alongside of them. If not ... the media will probably rationalize why he didn't.![]()
Parker for David Lee, oh yea that's a no brainer for the Spurs...are you kidding me. Get outta here. If the Spurs can move Jefferson for Rudy Gay cool but who even feels Lee will put the Spurs in contention.
I stopped reading at the word "Broussard".
this guy is one of the biggest tools on espn
which puts him high in the running for biggest tool worldwide
How ironic...he's suggesting a Gay Jefferson move...![]()
Broussard is actually one of the better writers amongst basketball analysts. He's probably the best at ESPN. Obviously he's not a front office man, so he's a bit miscast here in making suggestions for a team's future. But he's a good writer.
George. Hill. Is. Not. The. Next. Point. Guard.
Rudy Gay??
Pull the trigger R.C!!

I have completely started to ignore everyone who tells me the main reason Parker is tradeable is because George Hill is ready to run the point.
With all do respect, that's nothing to brag about. Broussard is pretty off the mark on this take.
Who's bragging?! Do I really have to do the whole Blue thing?
