as an occasional change of pace guy, he's okay. A very occasional change of pace guy. There are times where his offense can catch the opponent off-guard and in spurts barea is effective. I was a big barea fan in 08-09 for that very reason. Carlisle used him in spurts, for the most part he didn't overuse him, and overall barea looked decent.

The problem is when you overexpose him like carlisle did all last season. A 5-9 shooting guard with t-rex arms can't be counted on to give the team regular contributions every night at both ends of the court. Jj barea has no business playing a backup role to kidd next season. If he's not the 10th man or lower on the bench, the mavericks have serious issues next season.

If carlisle uses barea next season similar to how doc rivers used nate robinson (play him when he's hot, leave him on the bench for all eternity when he isn't) then i don't mind barea on this team. If carlisle is giving barea regular minutes that could go to beaubois or jones next season, then carlisle needs to be fired.

This trade would be an insult to Luol Deng.

Of course it would be smart to trade your biggest offseason asset to strengthen the SF spot when it already one of your most solid positions when there are other glaring holes on this team

Your about as incompetent as David Kahn of the T-wolves

If wat I've read about the DUST chip is correct, if Mavs do not like anything they see this summer they can waive him ro some and have a $13 million trade exception next year. So actually, the DUST chip can be used for this year or next year I think, although given the age of our core we need to make some happen this year.

no to Deng... not even close to a superstar, which is what the Mavs need... Deng just means Dirk still has a decent but not great supporting cast and we'll talk about his lack of help come playoff time.

damn, deng is only 25? I thought he was around jho/caron's age.

if DUST can't get a big name FA or Al Jefferson, turning down this deal will be horrible.
DUST has a contract equivalent to 13m salary room and none of the rest teams having such size of rooms made the playoffs this year. James might choose to join D-Whistle in Miami but I don't think it'll ever be time to give up until James pens the deal with Miami. at first Miami has to get Wade's commitment and if they get a rejection instead of acceptance, Lerbon will have nowhere to go except Dallas based on our original analysis.

Only a Wade&James Dynasty looks a little better than James&Dirk, either pair will overwhelmingly dominate the league and win rings for them both. the only difference is the length of time of each dynasty. Mavs seem a little old and supposedly Dirk won't have too many more years to play at his current level, and Dirk is more than a half decade older than Lebron so it's reasonable worry that Lebron will probably get into the same dilemma in a couple years with aged mavs as in cleveland with the rattled & bald Z and craps.

Lebron and Wade will tire out at the same verse of time, provided that age has equal effects on them, but they will have collected oversatisfying honours by then. It's guaranteed the Lebron&Wade combo will win a lot more achievements than Lebron&Dirk may possibly get, and that'll be the only reason for Lebron to choose Miami over Dallas.

Well, i always said, James could sign a S&T deal with a player option for the 4th year. He has a roster that definatly can win the next 3 years and the same time wait the development in NY and NJ.

Dirk has at least 3 great years left. Kidd can play more years with reduced minutes. Most of the other players are 30 or 31. I dont see there an age issue in this 3 years, Mavs are deep enough too.

Just imagine Lebron and Dirk on one side for the pnp/pnr, Kidd and Terry waiting on the other side and Haywood under the basket. How you wanna defend that?

I don't think Dirk has three great years left with those shaky ankles. Lebrick is not going to Dallas unless it is to watch a Cowboys game.

Fellas, let's keep it real here. Chicago flat out tried to make us there . They no perfectly well that Deng doesn't help us one bit, they just want Dampier to clear a ton of cap space to sign LeBron and they know that Deng would just screw everything up for us.

Aw, how far has this mighty Dallas Mavericks franchise has fallen that the Chicago freaking Bulls are trying to take advantage of us!!!

I think Dirk has only missed 9 games in his entire career (something like that) because he's hardly ever injured. Not only that, but his game doesn't rely on athleticism. That's one of the greatest things about Dirk and it shouldn't be surprising to anyone if he goes another 3 years averaging 25 ppg.

I think Dallas should cut Dampier so they can extend Kidd for 60 mil for 6 years. Unless of course they want to trade Roddy for an aging veteran point guard.

If they got Deng, Mavs would need to trade Caron or Marion otherwise there would be a huge logjam at SF. imo Caron>Deng
I agree. Deng is a great player and only 25, but we're already set at SF. Send him off for a shooter or a big man.

Dirk's ankles are a mess - he hasn't missed a lot of games, but he has hurt his ankles many times. The frequent sprains eventually catch up to you in the form of bone spurs and tendonitis. That's all I'm saying.

Could Dirk to it and have all-NBA seasons the next three years? Sure, but he does have a lot of miles on his legs.

Ok, you say Dirk has only missed 9 games in his entire career, that's good for him. but he is getting up there is age so that could change at anytime, not saying it will, but something to look out for.

Great player? Is he even top 10 at his position? Borderline if anything.

Deng is not going to change a teams fortunes.
