Whoops!
Yeah, I saw that before posting, of course. Sherron Collins and Jon Scheyer were on the 2nd team with Anderson, too, so that's why I said for what it's worth. It still shows how highly regarded James was...and it's not below average to be a Wooden Award Top 10 player, either.
He was also Big 12 POY. I'm still just a little surprised Reynolds didn't get drafted.
Reynolds has game. He would have been drafted by somebody if he was 4 inches taller or could play the point.
I saw Anderson play a little bit since he was in the Big 12. He put 24 on then #1 Kansas in one half of play in a game OSU eventually won.
He looks to be a quality perimeter player who has 3 point range. I think its clear the Spurs could use that type of player.
I found it somewhat irritating and predictable that the Dallas Maverick lapdog site dallasbasketball.com (run by the marginally talented part time radio personality Mike Fisher) made it a point that the Dallas Mavericks pick (Jones) was a higher ranked player than Anderson per the mavies draft board. This view was regurgitated by the Dallas Morning News Mavericks homer Eddie Sefko.
For some reason, Fisher and Sefko feel the need to lob grenades at San Antonio at almost any opportunity. It gets old.
Oh and by the way, this Jones guy from South Florida popped off and said he agreed with the Mavericks assessment. It's OK to be a confident player, but at least keep you pie hole shut when you have not yet done anything.
So once again, the Spurs get the humble guy with class, the Mavericks get the opposite of that.
Is there any organization that is "All Hat and no Cattle" any more than the Mavericks?
By the way, I find the NBA lacks integrity when teams can buy #1 draft choices from other teams. The Mavericks were able to acquire the first round pick for Jones to offset the pick they pissed away in the Jason Kidd trade - that should not be allowed to happen. The compe ive integrity of the NBA is compromised with these types of actions. Guess who sold the pick to Dallas? That's right, the Memphis Grizzlies. That team should be contracted from the NBA since they have no interest in being the best team they can be, as proven by other questionable player transactions over the last few years.
Jones talks alot. His problem will be getting on the floor so he will have to tlak about his game from the bench. He has the ability to get to the hole in college but is not that great of an outside shooter. That type of profile usually does not translate well to the pros. Anderson is a pure shooter. You can never have enough of these guys at the NBA level. His size is an added bonus which will allow him to shoot freely over smaller guards. He also is replacing Mason. As such Anderson will be a rotational player and see significant minutes verses Jones.
Dallas is just tired of loosing to San Antonio so they will reach for any type of victory they can find. It is laughable that they praise Jones as being over Anderson on the Dallas board where Anderson was easliy over Jones von every other teams board and all draft sites. In the end Dallas has to keep telling themselves they are better otherwise kleenix will run out of tissue paper.
waaaaaaaaaahaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa aaaahaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Is it really a surprise!!!?!?!??! The dallas mavericks and their fans' lives all revolve around spurs nation and who cant be!!!??!?!?! Wwe are the greatest pro sports franchise in the history of the western hemisphere professional sports era!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I'm surprised non spur fans can even sleep at night!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I love ...and so do all other mav fans =)
To the troll a couple of posts ago. Bite me!
I live in the Dallas area, so I run across the Maverick zombies a lot. They (and you) annoy me.
I wonder if he realizes how much his post was undermined by posting in a Spurs thread on a Spurs board.
Evidently his life does not revolve around the Spurs.![]()
James Anderson is the next Reggie Miller lol.
Let's hope so....from what I heard, he is a young Michael Finley.
I've also heard he will be better then Clyde Drexler....idk if i spelt that right
That's a lot of expectations for him from whoever said that.
I just read some stuff from DX covering Anderson, and Givony doesn't sound very optimistic about his NBA level defense at all. He does concede that he might just be saving his energy for the offense (like many have suggested here), but that does make me uncomfortable. Similar things were said about Jefferson a year ago, and his defensive revival never really happened.
If he was everything we needed, he wouldn't have been available at #20. Blair wasn't 7'0" tall either, but he had one undeniable NBA skill: rebounding. Anderson's one undeniable NBA skill is 3 point shooting. You start with what they can do, and build on it.
Oh, I get that. There's been a lot of praise for Anderson since he was drafting,
and I'm wondering how high we should honestly set the bar for him.
I don't post here very often, but I'm an OSU fan and I've wanted to see the Spurs land one of our guys for a long time! They flirted with Melvin Sanders for a while, and I had hoped they would somehow wind up with Tony Allen or Marcus Dove who are both defensive aces. I watched almost every single game Anderson played, and I think he'll be a great fit. At the very minimum, he can knock down the corner threes with ease. I think James Harden is a good comparison. While James A. doesn't have the same playmaking skills as James H., he gets more elevation on his jumper and could be a more potent scorer. He's also very humble and willing to learn, so I wouldn't be too concerned about his defense. Travis Ford played a lot of zone, so Anderson - again, like Harden - didn't have to play much man-to-man in college. There were a few times, however, when he was called upon to guard the opposing team's best player and he did fine. I don't expect him to be the next Bruce Bowen on D, but he should be better than most three point specialists, which I believe is his worst-case scenario.
I think it would be foolish for us to expect the next Bruce Bowen. I was just curious about his defensive potential and willingness, which you (as one who has watched him) seem happy about.
By the way, please post more. You know more about Anderson's game than most of us here.

How did James do in creating his own shot this year at OSU? I understand he really increased his FT attempts this year so I assume he was driving to the basket a lot more and not always settling for the jumper. Thanks for the info.
Anybody noticed how much Spurstalk loves rookies named James? White, Gist, now Anderson? Just saying...
Hey, Anderson is so popular they named loop 1604 after him.
