both are number one picks within two years of each other and occupy the PG position. they have similar explosiveness, freakish athleticism, strengths in attacking, and weaknesses in perimeter shooting.

i would say rose has the higher ceiling but wall actually has a brain, or at least more than rose. wall is also more versatile, probably possesses better court vision, and could potentially be a lockdown defender against PGs and SGs. rose is on a better team though.

If both were coming out of college... John Wall. Both have similar freakish athleticism, but Wall is bigger and seems to have a better feel for the game. Rose look like less of a natural point guard, a guy who will be a career 6-8 APG guy, while Wall probably has the potential to be around a 9-10 APG guy.

As of right now, it looks like Derrick Rose is going to have a higher chance at retiring with a championship (I know, it doesn't mean nothing when I'm talking about a guy who hasn't even played yet,) but that should be the difference.

Rose and Wall are so talented they woulda been 1st overall picks and studs regardless, Calipari is just willing to sacrifice any hope of team discipline and focus so he can recruit guys by telling them they can do whatever they want.
